Rundown: rpanons is an anonymous community for fictional character role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

alright i've come back from a long break, and people are putting placeholder toplevels in events and posting prompts below rather than the prompts in the toplevel. is there a benefit to this? is this the norm now?

the benefit for me is flexibility. i feel less pressure to put up one comment with all my open prompts. i also like being able to have replies to separate prompts in separate threads (this might just be a me thing).

i also like doing custom starters and closed prompts so it's easier to put something up i can point people to and say that their prompts will be there.

it can also be useful when event posts go up at crazy times and you want to put something up for people to tag into for plans you've already made but don't have the time to write up a whole top level.

i also like replies for separate prompts in separate threads. makes it easier for people to thread up and know which one they responded to, especially if someone's starters are very long.

It does allow you to add more prompts later as additional comments under your top level, while staying tidy!

But I do think some people have the anxiety they will be 'late' if they don't stay on the front page, which this also helps with.

i like it for flexibility! sometimes, i'll have one prompt right off the bat and want to put that up while i'm still working on the other ones, which might take days to flesh out to something i like. that way, people can be tagging my earlier prompts, and people who get to the post later have something they can also tag that might not have as many responses.

this goes double for a post that might last for an entire month, like a mod monthly post. sometimes, i just don't have the prompts ready to start with. i can also add in private prompts later and keep them all under a single header, which makes it much easier to keep track of for tallying up ac.

I've never quite liked it but it happens often these days. Placeholders in particular annoy me, because it's often just a placeholder for a longish time frame and seems to be about getting in a first or early comment more than anything else, but obviously other people see a benefit to them.
