This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. i feel that like another anon said, an AU changes the character/setting while headcanon just fleshes out a character

uncle joey from full house having a scar or an allergy would just be headcanon, uncle joey receiving a scar in a space laser battle or having an allergy to dragons would be an au

this even ties into canon aus vs general aus. there are canons, particularly like marvel and dc that have alternate universes, which is where the term comes from for rp. so the universe where supergirl is evil or where nightcrawler has a family with scarlet witch is divergent from the original canon source, or earth 616, as an example. it's still canon, but it's an au within the canon. like the three different peter parkers are now canon aus within mcu marvel.

but these are different than aus of a canon character, like wanting a character to be trans, or changing who they are as a person that we're familiar with in canon. an example of that outside of a trans or rule 63 idea would be taking harry potter and making neville be the boy who lived. or matt murdock deciding that after his dad died he didn't believe in god anymore, ran away from the nuns and the orphanage, and grew up as a blind boxer/street rat. fun au ideas, and that's why i love the au memes so much, but not canon by a long shot.

why is everyone so convinced there are zero stories out there where being a trans person isbt radical and isnt actually that abnormal an experience

we live in a world where a ton of canons have magic that turns people into other beings and uou cant imagine a scenario in which there are stories where nothing changes if a character was trans

i am not playing one

i just use my brain to read stories and there are some settings where it doesn't matter

there's a canon I'm into where we know a character isn't canonically trans because his friends are gushing over childhood pictures where he seems to be dressed as a girl, but he reveals it is actually his grandmother who looks similar to him. We are given many hints to suggest that the characters in this canon could live freely as trans people.

i would not consider a trans character in this setting a whole au, but might consider jason todd as a trans man an AU, and would def consider jason todd as transfemme an au. and so by that logic saying "every single trans thing has to be an au" just doesnt work

why are you making it seem like trans aus are a dirty word. like making it au instead of headcanon is filthy or an insult. that sounds like a you issue. it's not a bad thing. it's just not headcanon. it is, by definition of making a cis character trans, an au. which you can do. no one's stopping you. but there are definitions for that and terms for it. and there are places that allow it and places that don't. why are you arguing about the wrong thing?

possibly because most games won't allow aus of any kind but won't/can't say much about headcanon
