Rundown: rpanons is an anonymous community for fictional character role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

AU is something that differentiates from canon information. A scar or allergy that hasn't been mentioned doesn't deviate from what we know of a character (unless it does). If we all know Dean loves pie and eats all the pie ever and suddenly he's allergic to apples or pie crust, that would be a deviation from canon info and would make him Allergic to Pie AU Dean. The reason transgender and gender swaps are AUs are exactly that - they differentiate and deviate from canon information we've been given. Dean being Deanna is a great 63 AU that would be fun to play (badass horny hunter lady can be fun). But it'd be an AU. Same with Sam having had a sister that's now his brother. What one could play if one wanted that isn't -technically- an AU would be transitioning to female at 'present' canonpoint. That would be the only way that one could effectively play trans Dean without it being ooc or an AU. (arguments vary on if Dean feeling more female than male would be ooc or not, who knows what God and angels do).

AU changes the known information, hence 'alternate'. Headcanon follows along with what we know and supplies information that hasn't come up. Like maybe making Dean allergic to asparagus. Or having a scar under his big toe from stepping on barbed wire as a child.
