I'm one of like, three people I can think of who've ever played from this canon here, so every time I mention it to someone who doesn't know it, the first response usually has something to do with Star Trek.

nayrt but wow, i love wolf 359 and it never occurred to me that people might think it's somehow star trek related. now i kind of want to listen to it all over again because i remember the intense brainworms i had over jacobi and kepler.

I think it's because Star Trek does something with actual rl star Wolf 359 as well. There's an episode or a battle or something named after it? (idk the specifics, I'm canonblind). But I'm not surprised more people know Star Trek than a ten year old podcast.

(also yes, relisten to it, none of my brainworms are Jacobi and Kepler related but relisten and make an account and gimme threads plz)

yeah, the battle of wolf 359 it's probably one of the most recognisable, far reaching events in star trek. enough that it has entered general cultural osmosis and searching just 'wolf 359' in most search engines will give you a star trek result above even the wiki page for the actual star

there's a subplot in TNG where Picard gets taken by the Borg and assimilated, lasts for at least two episodes, maybe more. This is when the Federation is deep in the trenches with the borg, and because Picard has so much knowledge of the federation's movements this means the next encounter is an absolute slaughter for the Federation, this is known as the battle of Wolf 359. Picard is later rescued and de-assimilated, but the battle continues to have major repercussions in the Trek universe as Deep Space Nine starts off with Sisko taking command of Deep Space Nine, his previous major work had been on starships - his ship was lost at Wolf 359, leading to the death of his wife and him almost losing his son, too, and he has a LOT of bitter tension with Picard at the start, blaming him for that massacre. It comes up a lot in the early DS9 episodes as Sisko hasn't really coped with his grief and loss from it.

But yes, I was the nonnie who guessed Wolf 359 because I also immediately was like "Oh, is it a Star Trek podcast?" when I first heard about it...
