This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. i'd be keen to read through some of the studies you are citing, if there are some you've found particularly compelling. on a basic search, credible sources (including harvard review) argue that the negative pressures on sales offset benefits, but again, i'm not from the US (where most of this conversation tends to flourish) and i might be completely off base in where i'm looking.

and id argue that in an ecosystem where businesses seek to constantly enshittify media and put out garbage for increased revenue and erode our rights to things that we have purchased and erase certain media from the face of the planet for not being profitable enough, piracy is not only practically necessary for archiving and protecting art and culture, but also an especially effective deterrent and form of protest that ought to be used to protect consumer rights

i can and do acknowledge an ethical impact, anon, but of course it has to also come to the dollar to me. this pays my bills. it might be all abstracts to some, but this literally is my paycheck.

but i can appreciate you are coming from a different standpoint and am actually not trying to upset anyone, so i'll leave it here.

agreed on basically every point but especially about apping into an existing cast to do this - it would come off as tactless at best and carelessly disruptive at worst.

As someone who has, in fact, castmates I do not want to deal with ever (and I understand people would not want to play with me as a result), some thoughts on this:

- Do you have to interact with each other? If it's better to just not tag each other, I'd go for that instead of having a hostile relationship when you don't like the character. It goes into IC/OOC bleed that causes more problems in the end. If you do need to interact with them, I'd say don't join if you think you'll cause issues since they were in the game before you and it's unfair for them to be treated poorly as a result. You should PM them first to talk about it though, imo, but ymmv on this.
- If you're the first player in that cast, add that in your permissions. Make it clear if you are willing to work with a player or not regarding the character should they join. The worst thing for an incoming castmate is to think you'd be cool with each other only to find out the one in the game hated your character and didn't say anything. If you can find a middle ground, it's better, but if not then at least it gives that castmate thoughts on whether or not to join knowing you're in the cast.

if there's a castmate you dislike so much you wouldn't even want to tag them, then you shouldn't pick up that character in a game where there's a chance someone might app that castmate into the game.

stick to memes and psls where you can pick and choose what castmates you want to play with.

I have been in your castmates position and while opting out is always valid it made the tension ooc bad I ended up dropping. Personally speaking, imo, people who do this kind of thing strike me as bullies most of the time.

not really. it always ends up with me thinking the person is super immature. people are not as slick as they think when they dislike a character in cast and it always seeps through - very obviously, since you're outright asking how to avoid getting cr with a castmate.

regardless of anything else that's going to effect any cast that shows up. your other castmates will have to take it into account because you can't play nice with one character. I've been forced to do this often enough it just irritates the hell out of me now.

Got my start on LJ in 2009 with an X-men game. I think I was one of the last to make a migration over here, took a break that was about a year or two long thanks to depression, and came back after that. Been playing ever since. So in total thirteen years or so total?

you aren't required to tag anyone you don't want to, but imo it's messed up to join a game with full knowledge that you won't tag with your castmate(s). stick to psls for that character and join the game with a different one.

here's a psychotic piece of advice that will nonetheless solve your problem: find someone you like rping with who also likes the character you hate AND doesn't mind not having cr with your character in any capacity. then have them app that hated character with you.

you both agree not to tag one another, everyone else gets to play with both characters without much ooc friction, and nobody calls you a dick for having a specific castmate dni.
