interested in the power struggle between them leading to a dark level of obsession from either or both sides. ideally, this would be set in a canon au to make use of the tension that already exists between them and the dreamscape. it could be a case of picking up at the end of 2.1 with some tweaks to how things went or a little earlier with some discussion of what things would be like between them prior to the confrontation.

the dreamscape opens a lot of doors for kinks, including things that might go a little harder if we embrace the whole "no one dies in the dreamscape" thing. the only things i'm not interested in playing are scat, gore, vore, and amputation.

Seeing the rehash of Avatar fandom shipping wank in flatview is wild. I feel like I'm back in high school.

crosscanon/canonblind people on bakerstreet, what can someone put in their toplevel to increase your interest in tagging them? possible dynamics, starting points, reasons their characters are in the situation to begin with, etc.?

Something kind of weird and condescending in here that people are boiling down the reason someone finds the book a chore to get through to basically, “it’s too complex for you.” It’s not that complex. It’s kind of famously not the most smoothly written thing out there and I’m not surprised if people don’t find it immediately compelling.

It was fantastic, too bad barely anyone seems to be talking about it.

just caught up on the series recently, and that was wild... i'm ngl bram/fyodor would be fun to write, but i also have a few other old bsds still hanging around (dustyass dazai acc, odasaku, etc). hit me up if you're keen to revive the dawgs :)

If I wrote "preferred", it would mean there is a possiblity for something else, and then I'd treat it case by case, just like I do anyway. If someone comes offering a F/F to my "M/F preferred" top level, it's within their rights to assume I'm open to it. I might not want to tag with them, but that's not because of the F/F aspect but instead some other reason I have (such as not liking the dynamics between our characters).

Players shouldn't be vague about what they want or give hints of anything else than what they're interested in and willing to play. Don't put "preferred" if you really don't mean it, and you only want something else.

All those are good but for me OOC reasons matter as well. For example, having compatible tagging habits help and you can't really change what they are for you. If your journal says you're a boomeranger who doesn't like backtagging for longer than a day, I won't tag you, and you're probably happy that I don't. We just wouldn't get anything done so there's no point in starting.

For me, I love when people put out some kind of dynamic or starting prompt, because if I don't know the character that lets me know whether I might have someone who gels with them.

I also think it can be really helpful (especially with more obscure characters) to have a little précis, like, idk, "heroic shounen protag with a lot of trauma", for the same reason - as someone who plays a lot of characters, it can help me to think "oh, hey, I also have a heroic type who might be able to connect with this" or w/e.

If you're posting on shipping or smut-friendly memes, a kink list makes me feel a lot more comfortable about hitting up someone I don't know, whether or not I'm canonblind. Similarly, on memes with an angsty or dark bent, it's helpful to have some sense of what the player's limits and comfort level is, as well as what might come up (either as a link to a permissions post or something, or in the toplevel itself).

Basically, anything that gives me a sense of who the character is and what the player is looking for makes it WAY more likely that I'll tag them. The main block for me with new crosscanon CR is that I often go in with good intentions, but then when I actually go to tag out, I get anxious about whether what I'm thinking will actually fit with what a stranger wants to play, so I'm looking for something to build from.

(tbh, this doesn't just apply to crosscanon, but it's way more important with characters I don't already know anything about)

yes to all of those (imo the more you put in the toplevel the better your chances are), but if you're feeling lazy or like a particular meme's too long-shot for effort, you can just put in your toplevel or a permissions post that you're specifically looking for crosscanon - just make sure there's info about your character in their journal. pretend that last part's bolded, underlined, done in rainbow, sparkling, etc.

combination rl+rp woe but. if real life could stop kicking my ass, that'd be great. i just want to do my stuff (including rp) in peace, not have to stress over 100 different things all the time :( i'm sorry, ppl with whom i started threads before all this shit happened, i promise i'll be back with tags as soon as i can

ayrt, and thanks! sometimes I worry that I'm overprepping this thing. but I've also run TTRPGs before where I try flying by the seat of my pants and it always ends in tears. mostly I'm doing rough passes of events (and writing THIS IS NOT THE FINAL DRAFT in big caps on the event document, so they can change based on player input and etc) and getting the HTML nailed down.

there's a pretty big chunk of game info, so I wanted the mod journal to look pretty. still need to figure out game ad coding and 'Looking For Co-Mods' advertising, along with a couple of other stuffs. but most of the info is ironed out at least!

probably going to go to the game ideas column at some point much, much later on to get feedback on what works.

For me, it depends on the character/scenario, but I'll usually put in additional info explaining. For example, I might have a female character I generally prefer to play M/F with, but would be open to playing F/F with certain castmates. I might write something like, "Name | Canon | M/F preferred" in the subject and then write, "Open to F/F with castmates B, C and D" in the body of the comment itself. Or, let's say I have an older male character where I'm only open to writing age gap M/M with him but not age gap M/F because that makes me uncomfortable. However, I might still very open to shipping/smutting him with women his own age and don't want to put them off from replying by making them think I only want M/M, no exceptions. In that case I might say "Name | Canon | OTA, M/M slightly preferred" in the top level with an explanation of, "M/M only for age gap relationships, OTA for characters his age" in the comment.

Other times it admittedly might be a way to ward off certain things that I'm fine with playing with my friends or at least people I know but would be leery of being approached with from strangers. Let's say I am willing to write M/F with a certain male character, but only with people I already know. In that case, I might put something like "Name | Canon | M/M preferred" and leave it at that, in the hopes that strangers will only tag me for M/M but I can still leave the door open for my friends to tag in with M/F without people thinking they're just straight-up ignoring my stated prefs.

Idk if this is helpful or if this is how most people use "preferred" but it's what I do.

I'm still playing through 2.1 slowly but when I get through it I maaay be interested in this.

I wish people would stop sanitizing my villain. They’re doing bad things, it’s okay to react badly to them! Cherry picking your interactions with them to maintain sane, happy, and healthy cr is boring. If I wanted my cr to be strictly positive, I’d play someone else.

you're definitely going to want to communicate this directly. some villain players get very, very upset when their characters aren't treated with kid gloves, and a lot of people stay on their tiptoes to avoid inciting yet another wankstorm around the topic.
