I also put in an app. I hope there's enough that we have a game. There is a lot going on and it's pretty complicated but I think if there's enough of a playerbase willing to commit it could get off the ground. It's a really ambitious premise and I think more interesting setups like this for a smaller group of players could be a good development for DWRP as a whole.

chill, they're open until the 28th. the mod not updating the comment doesn't mean the game is dead.

unfortunately a game can be pretty and interesting and have mods who seem excited but still flop if it can't get enough interested players which may be what's happening here. i had people interested in it on my plurk timeline but a lot of them bailed once another game tdm went up that they were more into. they were interested in the seasons powers game more than a space game.

It didn't help that I was trying to voice test a character and the sample wanted 10 comments just from me for the application, so the combination of no traction on the TDM + a large sample requirement means even if I did write an app it wouldn't get accepted, so I just gave up.

i think possibly some people are rushing to the DOA conclusion because a lot of games opened and closed rapidly last year, and it's become more common for games to have an extremely short lifespan.

I had a rough couple of days but I'm planning to send in an app soon. The blank app comment was scaring me, tbh.

this (screened apps but the mod takes a long time to update the received apps comment or never does) has been a problem at multiple games lately and makes me wonder why so many games still default to screened apps. are that many people worried about posting a public app?

as an app mod elsewhere, I prefer screened apps so we can process out of order in case we need to wait for someone canon familiar or otherwise to be online. people get bitchy if you go out of order for any reason unscreened.

as a player: is less embarrassing if there's a revision or decline. help prevent app plagiarism (an extremely minor concern, but, i appreciate the privacy and option for choice if i want to additionally put my app out there in my journal for public reference or keep it to myself. really the only other people who need to see any app are game mods).

as a mod: it lets me process apps out of order if i need a second opinion, permits me the option to make a hard choice if we're near a game cap without accusations of favoritism or whatever, permits me to pre-screen problematic players and privately decline them if needed (which is very rare).

ngl screened apps is an instant back button for me. if i can't see how potential castmates interpret their characters, i'm not going to waste the time and effort on an app only to find out that we have completely differing interpretations of canon.

You can usually see the app on the character journal anyway, if the game allows for linked apps.

in that case i'd just check the game comms, character inboxes, character profiles etc. it's very rare to find someone who doesn't have at least an app, inbox or info pages in their journal if they're actively playing in a game.

could take it the other direction -- i'm not convinced a received apps comment is necessary? like...is it to make sure you don't app someone already apped to a game that doesn't allow challenges? there are easier ways to handle that.

ime it's usually because players demand one so they can keep track of apps coming in and get excited or wank about it depending on how they're feeling

eh, only to people who judge games based on little things like this. not everyone cares this much or they're willing to give mods more of a benefit of the doubt. you're assuming that everyone in dwrp expects 100% professionalism and availability from mods at all times, which isn't true.

personally i don't think it makes a difference if this mod chooses to update it or not as long as the rest of the game runs ok.

DA; while I'd like to give the mod(s) the benefit of doubt I feel like this comment will age poorly if the app round ends up not being processed after all

they probably just forgot about the app list comment while managing everything else. has anyone actually told them so instead of bitching about it not being updated here?

interesting how the tone of this comment implies that all mods are equally aware of what a game "should" look like and also how many people in dwrp as a whole are dissatisfied with their apps not being worth anything
