Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

ime it's usually because players demand one so they can keep track of apps coming in and get excited or wank about it depending on how they're feeling

"it doesn't look great"

eh, only to people who judge games based on little things like this. not everyone cares this much or they're willing to give mods more of a benefit of the doubt. you're assuming that everyone in dwrp expects 100% professionalism and availability from mods at all times, which isn't true.

personally i don't think it makes a difference if this mod chooses to update it or not as long as the rest of the game runs ok.

DA; while I'd like to give the mod(s) the benefit of doubt I feel like this comment will age poorly if the app round ends up not being processed after all

Re: Majority Rule

(Anonymous) 2023-02-24 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
they probably just forgot about the app list comment while managing everything else. has anyone actually told them so instead of bitching about it not being updated here?

da

interesting how the tone of this comment implies that all mods are equally aware of what a game "should" look like and also how many people in dwrp as a whole are dissatisfied with their apps not being worth anything

anons here really will reach for any excuse to blame mods for all of their problems

if someone is put off from apping by the fact that a mod hasn't updated one single measly comment that makes literally no difference to the game, despite being active on plurk and elsewhere then they're not the kind of person who was very invested in the game in the first place

god the entitlement in this thread stinks tbh

no wonder all of these games are doa because if i was the mod and i saw the way people are talking here i wouldn't want to cater to you either

if I were them I'd seriously consider closing up shop just to avoid dealing with it ngl. people aren't joking when they say moderating is thankless.

another mark for games staying fully private so this kind of shitty conversation can't happen

well done, "concerned players"

players: wow this new game is cool
mod: ok apps are open
players: *make excuses to not app*
mod: the game isn't opening due to lack of interest
players: why didn't this game open??? where are all the good games???

rinse and repeat

Re: Majority Rule

(Anonymous) 2023-02-24 01:31 pm (UTC)(link)
again, has anyone even mentioned to the mods the app comment isn't updated? I got curious and every other page I've looked at is up to date. one comment not being updated is more likely to be an oversight than a sign they aren't invested. moderators are humans who do forget a task here or there sometimes, not machines.

I'd understand if they had been late posting things or not responding to questions on the tdm and stuff but they seem to be doing things on time and still replying to people. why are players complaining here on the off chance the moderators will read it instead of just hitting one of their contact posts?

Re: Majority Rule

(Anonymous) 2023-02-24 01:45 pm (UTC)(link)
i get that but the anon i was responding to seems to be putting the onus on the moderators not seeming invested enough largely because the apps received comment hasn't been updated.

it looks to me like the moderators are actively responding to things and have been putting everything else up on time. they clearly put a lot of work into the test drive.

i get that people are hesitant to app and honestly i don't think the game will get off the ground because of that but i do think it's ridiculous to pin the blame for that on the mod team especially when pointing to a comment that it seems no one has pointed out they missed updating to them.

there's a reason we don't get as many new games these days. no matter how dense or sparse a tdm, people bitch it isn't the opposite. or it isn't the right tone. or they don't like the characters on the tdm. or this one minor game detail isn't quite right for them.

sometimes despite all of that a game will have a hit tdm with factors that can't really be forced by the mods. if a game shuts down near to it and you get the wave of people looking for a new one that can help. or if some popular players decide they like it they can usually drag a ton of friends and get the word out. I've seen tdms everyone on plurk and elsewhere agreed were boring flourish and I've seen tdms people said they loved fail due to perceived interest from other players.

I've also seen us lose moderators and potential moderators every time as players and prospective players continously nitpick and blame moderator teams for everything including things they never even bring to the attention of whichever mod team.

it's exhausting and why i would never moderate a game myself.

Re: Majority Rule

(Anonymous) 2023-02-24 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
it drives me crazy when anons say they miss the old days when games were abundant and things were more relaxed and fun. the reason those things existed was because players were willing to give mods the benefit of the doubt and weren't expecting a 100% perfect professional quality game from the very beginning

there was discussion a little while ago about how some of the best beloved games on ljrp didn't even have event posts, they just had brief notes in the game calendar to say what was going to happen and they still had active and creative playerbases

those games wouldn't survive today with all of these expectations and this entitlement. players need to learn to chill out

the items mentioned here are:

- the received applications comment is not up to date (which could be the mods trying not to discourage applications by making it seem DOA and only reporting very few apps)

- some found the tdm too dense - even though it still got a few hundreds of comments, which could be enough for a small game

- people are coming in with some kind of app trauma because unrelated games closed on them last year

idk man, 2 out of 3 of these aren't really critical or pertinent to MR. (general) you don't need to justify why you're not applying, but let's not sit here and pretend there's some great series of blunders and unfortunate events that's leading to MR not getting apps so far. let's be honest and say people are giving up on it easier than they might have last year, because there's a string of new games opening up, and they can afford to be pickier.

I've seen several tdms in the past month or so and obviously no one can app to every game. Some of the people I saw talking about MR swapped to other games that popped up just because the other games interested them more or had more friends on them. It happens.

why are players complaining here on the off chance the moderators will read it instead of just hitting one of their contact posts?

because they want to wank the game to death

it's the only reason anyone ever brings anything here rather than actually going to the mods to resolve the issue, because they want to create wank and then be surprised pikachu when the game dies and they can continue to complain about how nobody wants to mod any more

but... you're not offering criticism, unless you're going and communicating this to the mods. you're contributing to a string of negativity associating this game to failure before the app session has even closed.

this is the part people need to get: no matter how reasonably or politely they put down a game, they are still putting it down, in a period when in order to live to fight another day and improve the tdm format, a game needs public hype, positivity and good vibes. the kindest thing you can do for this game right now is (and for any new game), if you have concrit to share, is to communicate it to the mods and keep it off a venue like rpanons. otherwise, you feed into a self-fulfilling prophecy that the game has died or will die.

i'm not trying to be unkind in saying this, because i think you and some others mean well. but you're missing the point. part of what gets a game off the ground is the stubborn enthusiasm from a handful of mods and players that it will succeed. people sitting here, dissecting what's going wrong and pronouncing it DOA are just sealing the deal of its failure.

They've been responding within a day or so to any comments on both plurk and their journals from what I've seen. I don't think the moderator team isn't excited, motivated, or available. Like the other anon downthread I think they probably just forgot to update the application comment since everything else is getting timely responses and updates.

I do think that there doesn't seem to be much of a potential player base, though. There's a few people tagging but it doesn't seem like the initial interest for the game is going to translate into people actually joining? I saw on plurk there's only three applications in. I'm still working on mine because I'm slow.
