i wouldn't class disney in the same category as kids shows. disney movies are deliberately designed to be appealing both to kids AND the adults who take their kids to see the movies, because those adults have to sit through the movies too and they wouldn't take their kids to something that was hideously boring for them to have to spend an hour plus sitting through. i know people in their 70s and 80s who still enjoy disney movies. that's by design.

kids shows, on the other hand, are really only made to appeal to their target audience, which is kids. they don't have to put in stuff for the adults to enjoy too.

I understand that Disney has "adult themes" but I haven't enjoyed Disney movies since I was a child. It's not an age/maturity thing, they just lost me at some point and I don't enjoy them. Seeing a Disney character (or any other "kids media" character) makes me go "oh, that's kid stuff" even if I KNOW that it's not only for kids. I am aware of this, but I still feel the same way.

I can't think of a single Disney character who I would be excited to have CR with because it would be compelling in some way. That doesn't mean Disney characters aren't compelling, it's just not my thing. You do you.

People have preferences and themes that don't align and it's FINE.

Taking this to a place where we split a different hair, it depends which disney movie we're talking about. I would absolutely play with an Aladdin. I have 0 interest in playing with a Peter Pan or Wendy. They're both teenage boys from cartoon canons, but Peter would be an awful little troll child while Aladdin knows how to carry himself like a grownup most of the time.

it's just about toys and money and merch. moreso than it ever has been.

that's why it's understandable that ppl would assume disney loving adults are mentally stunted in some capacity. it's the deliberate association that's been planted. even though it's not necessarily the reality tbh.

I personally find it off putting when anyone wants to go to disneyland over and over, but it has more to do with disney as a brand than these nerds who refuse to outgrow disney

I am actually canonblind to the majority of canons out there, including things considered very popular and mainstream. I will tag anyone that looks interesting.

I made an attempt to get into popular Disney stuff recently because I thought I was being too close minded. I watched Encanto and Turning Red. I thought they were cute but I would not watch them more than the one viewing. In the past, I enjoyed Disney movies that had a clear villain or someone went on an adventure. Stories where the outcome is "my family reconciled and all our issues went away now" completely miss me and I'm not interested. It's not something I am capable of relating to and tends to make me depressed. For other people, this is feel good entertainment and I am happy for you! But it isn't for me. This also extends to a lot of children's media made more recently.

I feel the same way about anime and won't say it because I have seen people wanked for not liking it. People have preferences and that should be ok. Some styles appeal to some, so naturally they wouldn't to others, that's the point of art and entertainment.

DWRP nerds will go off on sportsball and shit, but if you don't like their genre of choice, you are immature or snobby. I have never understood that dynamic.

personally i find people being bitchy about others interests to always be trashy and poor taste. this includes sportsball and other irl hobbies in addition to watching or not watching cartoons or live action. like sure vent to pals one on one about a thing you don't like, but the people who bring up how they do not like That Thing all the time and make it a cornerstone of their personality are always exhausting, whether they are hating on football or anime or marvel.

if you just choose to avoid it or not partake that is ok, but there are a lot of "medium divide" people on BOTH sides who seem to feel the need to attack the character of the people who do or do not watch whatever they are upset about. that is when it gets immature and snobby and just annoying imo.

I'd count Disney animated stuff - but for me it's a matter of having only that on your muselist. Disney animated characters in your muselist? Nbd, they can be really interesting in certain settings have fun with it. A muselist of 20+ characters that are exclusively Disney animated, my little pony, Steven Universe, She-Ra and Adventure Time? I mean, great have fun, but I'm assuming we're gonna have different ideas of fun.
