their choice at the end of the day but i'd probably think they might be gearing up to drop the hiatused game sooner or later, esp if they're putting apps into other games during the hiatus and advertising this

because in this hobby being excited over new things is both incredibly common and normal, and something people will hate you for

it's just jealousy at the end of the day. people who act like this are jealous that their friend isn't specifically paying attention to them but they know that's a socially unacceptable thing to admit, so they deal with their feelings by venting them anonymously or by pretending they have a "valid concern" over what their friends do with their free time

if you're stressed enough with rl to hiatus from rp, you don't immediately go and app into another game. just be honest and say you aren't feeling game #1 instead of trying to legitimize with obvious fake excuses

I would find this behavior pretty annoying. If you're not feeling a game anymore just be honest about it. Or drop, if you really don't have time for whatever kind of game it is.

i think the problem in this thread is that people are mixing two different issues here

is it ok to only hiatus in one game and still do other rp stuff? yes, absolutely, people do it all the time. it isn't all or nothing.

what makes people side-eye it's when you say "i'm not rping this month" (implying "at all") and then you rp anyway.

so if you only say stuff like "i don't have much time this month so i'll only fool around on some memes" or "need a break from this game" i promise you nobody will give a fuck

I think it depends on the player and the situation. And also my relationship to them. If they are my ship partner or close CR and I've been waiting on them for months/gotten excuses for awhile, I might be frustrated seeing it. BUT I would think it was their life and their choice and probably not tell them, because RP is RP. I privately might be bummed about it.

Though one time someone posted they were dropping from a game because they broke their wrist and couldn't write. Then apped another game the same week.

I feel that these kinds of lies (which feels like a really strong word to use for this tbh but ok) are usually led to by people feeling insecure and not wanting to let others down so they avoid being honest about just not feeling what they've currently got as an attempt to spare others' feelings. That kind of coping mechanism tends to make any fallout ultimately worse but I understand why people do it.

That said the best way to manage this is to just be direct and honest about being a little burned out on what you've got, so you're pivoting to focus on something new for a while (or as mentioned above, getting into a game during the limited time it's open and putting in some extra effort to get established). Most rpers have had that experience too and will understand.

In that example I'd say it's acceptable? Maybe they were burning out at that moment in the game and wanted something different to destress. Sometimes I focus on one set of tags more when stressed than another.

But generally I probably wouldn't care unless they keep tagging me then going on hiatus month after month. Then I'd just stop tagging them because that's unnecessary bloat in my inbox.
