uh, imo, it depends on how you go about it.

i've dealt with some people who sobbed about how they're so burnt out to even think about tagging, and they have to hiatus because their energy is gone, and then they've got a tag plurk going at the same time gushing about their 200+ tags at this new game.

i try not to stalk people, but sometimes people make it very obvious, like i once had a comod who talked about how school made her so burnt out that she can't even think about rping and she also doesn't want to step down as a mod but she's just so tired, sorry...............and also she's apping a new character to this fast paced game and is SO hype. same convo, back to back statements.

but if you're just saying you're burnt out, but think maybe trying something new on your downtime might help when you're ready to return, i wouldn't think twice about it. tdms don't have time constraints, sometimes something new helps, in the worst case you're dropping game a for game b but w/e, that's not a big deal.

thanks for the input. i enjoy my first game greatly and the irl stress is a yearly constant this month because of the financial year. i'm not 'faking' the need for my hiatus. but the other game does apps very, very, very infrequently, so it's either push through and tdm/app now, or only join it many months from now (sorry for being vague, trying not to id myself).

i think that's a "legitimate" reason, especially knowing i have the bandwidth for both games in may, but i am not insensitive that things might look different from the outside.

please for the love of god think about your own mental health first and foremost, not what a bunch of assholes on rpa think

if you're saying i'm not rping at all, that will be bad optics because you're rping elsewhere openly, if you're like i need a break from this character, but i'm going to hit some other things, that should be fine.

caring so much about "optics" is 90% of why this community has such a problem with anxiety

yeah, i'd think so too. it's audit season, there's reasons to be stressed rn, but if apps open once every so often i can see why you'd want to hurry and do it now.

but ultimately it just comes down to what everyone's more or less been saying: as long as you don't go "oh i am so tired my energy is gone i must prioritize my mental health, do not speak to me about rp, do not speak to me about tags, the thought of rp exhausts me i need a mental health break and cannot tag rn" and THEN go "also check out this 300 comment tdm post i got going with 5 people, i've been boomeranging right this second" no one is going to care.

at least no one reasonable is going to care. if i was your one close castmate and you just told me what you wrote here, i'd probably want to snoop your threads and cheer you on. i'd be fine with this.

you're fine. don't worry about what neurotic anons on these comms think, this place is a tiny % of dwrp and nobody really cares that much if you need to take time off from a game and app into another one. and if they do care they'll probably forget about it within a month or two

please look after yourself first. if you spend all of your time trying to please this crowd you'll drive yourself mad. caring so much about what things look like from the outside is a great way to make yourself feel worse for no actual benefit.

"i'm too stressed and busy for this game" and then apping into another is where the problem comes from. "i'm too stressed and busy to balance two games this month so i'm going to focus on getting established in game #2 while the opportunity is there, and i'll be back in full swing in may" is fine

honestly op idk why you couldn't have told your gamemates exactly what you just told anons a few comments above

nobody would judge an explanation like that. doing it like you described in your original post, tho, would definitely make me wonder if you're losing interest in game 1 altogether at the very least

if it's a matter of wanting to get properly set up on a time limit in a second game between a briefly busy irl schedule nobody's gonna bat an eye. but they sure wouldn't guess that just by the info you initially dropped

why do dwrpers think they are owned an explanation of someone's personal circumstances that they deem "legitimate" enough to excuse them from their tags, specifically

just dont think youre owed tags when youre very visibly lying to people you consider and treat as your friends so you can blow them off for a new shiny

it is really not that hard to comprehend

"i'm busy this month so i'm going to divide my time online [like this]" offers almost no info about your personal circumstances, but it does let your writing partners in a cooperative writing hobby know what to expect from your availability so that they can also plan accordingly, and everyone (not just you, but including you) can have a better time. if i am on a sports team and i know i don't want to go to next week's game, i am expected to tell my team that i won't be there so that they can make adequate arrangements around me. if i just don't show up and then have a tantrum when people are unhappy with me, i am the asshole, not my team.

i haven't done or said anything yet, for what it's worth. i was trying to assess if it were even acceptable to participate in the tdm for game 2 and advertise it honestly, or whether i should acknowledge that hiatusing in light of rl circumstances would make things look weird. it seems as if what everyone in this thread agrees about is that communicating things very clearly should hopefully make things more palatable. this thread has gone a lot of places, but i'm grateful for the feedback, since many of you seem much more experienced in game etiquette than i am.
