rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. tried to join a game, shortly after fell in a rut where i wanted to do anything but tag and ended up dropping

now i *want* to tag again, but bakerstreet is a useless wasteland.

Bakerstreet's only a useless wasteland if that's how you treat it.

"tag out" is only maybe a quarter of the trick

"find the few people out there that will both respond at all and not flake out immediately, then tag them" is the whole thing

easier said than done, but ime: look for info in toplevels and info in journals, preferably both. blank toplevels and clean slate journals are a lot more likely to pay you dust, if there's nothing in a journal i don't even bother anymore

+1 i never tag blank journals/folks who didn't even bother to edit their profiles. i prefer to see some writing samples but i'll go for anyone who looks interesting and at least has a basic permissions posts up, which imo is more important than general info, though both are ideal.

this is true. if i weighed people i've responded to that have zero in their profile vs those that do, i've had much more success with the latter. because they care enough to put in even the most mediocre of effort.

comment count's a better indicator imo

Nah, that doesn’t make any sense. If they just made the journal, their comment count will be low and if your method was used by everyone it would stay that way.

i too only tag players who get a lot of tags

There's no functional difference between a character with a canon I don't know and a well developed OC. Tagging to those or back to unfamiliar types who tagged me have made up the bulk of my best threads lately.

Tagging canonblind is a fun af way to find new fandoms, and honestly just as easy as a castmate whose player I don't know. Testing the waters is testing the waters.

sometimes i do sort of troll around posts and see journal names that appear to be replying to people more. if they're characters i want to play with, i keep an eye out for their top levels. the best is when someone has in their journal links to other bakerstreet things they've done because then you can see how they write too. i get so psyched when i see that.
