that depends tbh! i'm not super interested in smut being the main focus or primary goal here so i think i'd take a rain check on that, but as an occasional side-dish that results from natural CR build-up, it's more than welcome and i can go either way.

first, i got asked if i was secretly someone that someone had rped with back in the lj days because of "a similar playstyle". then someone else sent me a long, emotional message because they thought i was someone else they played with back in the day and had ended things on a ad note with. then, and by then i mean today, i got accused by yet another person of being someone else trying to "sneak in" and "return to dwrp under a new alias" bc the obscure muse i picked is one they used to play four years ago and that proves i'm secretly some old wanker. (this is setting aside the person who asked me if i was someone who ghosted them bc hey, i and this other person both know arabic isn't spoken in afghanistan, so we must be the same person too, right - that person at least admitted they were wrong, while no one else so far has.)

as much fun as i'm having with the normal people i've met, i'm sort of getting creeped out by this, and it's making me second-guess apping into any games. i don't want any further attention from people who think random strangers are secretly someone they know. and i don't want to say the wrong thing to one of these people and end up with them going to wankgate and blowing the whole thing up into a big drama fest.

it sucks bc i was really looking forward to this game i was interested in. one of the normal people i've been tagging with invited me to it and she seems really chill and cool and i'm sure there's good writers there. but the atmosphere in dwrp is a lot more paranoid than i'd initially thought and it's really uncomfortable and not the kind of extra stress i need in a year like this.

i can see how it would be bothersome, but gently correcting people seems like it would solve the problem. maybe not so gently in terms of the people making accusations of sneaking back in, because that's just douchebaggery, but i would just leave it at "sorry, i'm not them" and move on. there's no reason to avoid apping because of it and any threads would like that would just die or get frozen on wg without proof.

i do hope you at least replied to the second person and let them know you weren't the person they used to play with, though. sometimes people are just excited by nostalgia and they don't always think it through. it sounds like they were a little overbearing but meant well.

i'm sorry you're dealing with this, anon. some aspects of dwrp's social scene are hard to understand at best and harmful at worst, but i wouldn't let these experiences deter you from applying to a game you might enjoy with a person you've been getting on well with. i might be wrong, but i get the impression that the only people who care what happens on wg are the twenty or so who frequently post on it. if you do become the center of some drama, try not to let it bother you. i know it's easier said than done and that the situation is uncomfortable no matter what, but the other normal people in this hobby don't generally let what they read there get in the way of their rp experience.

i'd just use a different handle tbh. that is, unfortunately, one of incredibly few names that would inspire the type of insane paranoia you're describing. just pick something else and you'll be fine; like above anon said, if one person suspected you of being a very specific seth, they likely told other people. you were just unlucky with this one.

Unfortunately anons love playing internet detective (someone has [common name] and plays [extremely popular character from a canon that was big a few years ago], they must be the exact same person!), so someone probably "pieced it together" and will never let it go. It might be worth it to make something linkable with proof that you exist and a statement of I'M NOT THAT SETH, but I'm not sure where would be the right place to put that, either.

It's definitely a your mileage may vary sort of game. It has an event every month, with two months concurrent happening in the same location. Activity wise, it's got both fast and slow taggers. AC is check in (with brief description) and mods have been kind in the past about activity. It has a mix of both animated and live action and everyone seems to be happy tagging everyone.

IMO, it's a really fun chill game. You should check it out.

another ken had "not that one" in their plurk profile for a bit but frankly i don't think it's in good taste. just say you're not them, be on your way. as someone else said, barely anyone pays wg any mind these days and it'll die a lame death there when no deets surface of wrongdoing.
