fob, but only pre-hiatus. their new stuff is shit.

pete wentz is a huge shithead. like he's no ian watkins as far as literal human garbage goes, but it still impedes my ability to fully enjoy their music for extended periods of time.

so i lean on mcr here. plus black parade was a landmark album that people who even aren't big on emo rock still talk about favorably. that's gotta account for something.

mostly the general "slept around with minors/was sexually inappropriate with female fans" kind of thing that you see a lot in acts like that. he's not the only person guilty of that in the emo rock world, but it feels like people are way more willing to forgive him for doing it, which gets frustrating.

like i'm not a big proponent of cancel culture, but it would be nice if he was at least made to ever apologize for any of the shit he was accused of and/or admitted to, or for the fans to actually just collectively admit it happened.

like the dickpicks he was sending to underaged fans are still out there on the internet if you look hard enough, i'm sure.

pete’s ex-long term gf was 15 when he started dating her. he was 23 at the time. most of his early lyrics are specifically about her and how toxic the relationship was, but also the vitriol he used against her was fucking bananas. ‘i wouldn’t piss to put you out’ she was a kid pete.

also yeah he and jared leto routinely hit on minors at shows/sent dick pics.

fob but i admit mcr were amazing in themes and concepts. fob's mania was kind of messy. they scraped a good chunk of it before released at a later date. it shows.

both are waaaaaay better than p!atd tho.

fob's mania was messy as hellllll. you've got to give mcr some credit for stopping on a high note. killjoys isn't as iconic as black parade but it's still a damn good album.

but yeah mania is messy but i still jam to the songs. they're all so good on their own but together, as a theme, its messy. here's hoping the next album there's more cohesion but still good tunes.

i never really got why panic was lumped into the emo category. their first album sounds more pop punk than anything, and their second album is ryan ross living his beatles fantasy. present panic is pretty much just pop.

i loved them both but in retrospect mcr had more heart. fob got tripped up in pete wentz's masturbatory lyrics (as in, too concerned with his own cleverness and also his thesaurus) and layers of pop production du jour–mcr lost their way a little bit on that last album and they were occasionally pretty cringey but they were always themselves.

my answer would be different if fob let their sound evolve more naturally from their first two albums, which were their best by far. MANIA has some fun songs and i think is the best effort among their recent stuff but it's not surprising to me that they've essentially turned out to be maroon 5 lite
