Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

taxi drivers have to go through some kind of screening and background check. they have medallion numbers and most taxi services now have some kind of system to track fares. there's a lot of structures in place to keep dangerous people out of becoming taxi drivers and to track them down if they do something.

rideshares like uber have a lot less scrutiny which is why they have a lot more instances of drivers assaulting passengers. that would be a better comparison.

there are also counterfeit medallions and fake names. loads of taxi drivers have been accused of sexual assault. it was a thing for a while. every system has a flaw, anon. ubers and rideshares are probably more accountable because of insurance issues that taxis don't have. (depending on if it's a union cab or company cab or what the system in place for any given cab company is)

they also vary from state to state and country to country. even city to city.

and randos you know the internet persona of have absolutely none of those safeguards, even the ones that don't work as well as they should. how is that better.

you're the one picking the rando, not me. if you're the dumbass going to meet someone you don't actually feel you know well enough to meet, that's on you.

i've known people for years online and seen plenty of pictures and known other people who can attest to their validity and i'm STILL uneasy meeting online friends for the first time. even if you know someone really well, how positive can you be that it isn't all an act? and even if they're legit, they could still just be really different in person. i've known people online that were way less funny and easy to talk to in person, and i've known people irl that i try to keep up with online and we just didn't click the same way.

it doesn't matter how well you know someone online. there's still all kinds of uncomfortable or scary situations you could end up in meeting people from the internet.

and that's still your decision to put yourself in what may be an untenable situation. you make that decision. no one forces you to. so either take precautions or don't bother.
