Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

has anyone apped from 50 Shades of Grey yet? and if not, why not

Re: DUPLICITY

(Anonymous) 2018-10-24 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
because it's irredeemable garbage.

it's literally twilight fanfic with the names changed.

Ugh I am so over Twilight/50 Shades hate. The sideyeing it deserves is nowhere near the level of extreme hate that it receives.

Take a look at yourself and really think about whether you're hating it because it's problematic, or you're hating it because it was popular to dogpile on at the time, and we're conditioned to hate anything that women/girls enjoy. That's what I did and it changed my whole perspective.

i don't hate them because they're problematic, i hate them because they suck. not everything needs to be a tumblr debate, jan.

Personally, I get people sticking up for Twilight, but 50 Shades’ bad first person writing is so blatantly grating enough that even that alone puts it firmly into “the only entertainment value in this book is making fun of it” territory for me.

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2018-10-24 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
So many movies and books are bad though. What makes this one so much worthier of hate than anything else?

When you hate on the film, you're attacking one of only two movies that were aimed at women that entire year. Think about it.

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2018-10-24 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
don't do that. don't equate 'aimed at women' as being worthy of anything special. that's like calling any female who didn't vote for clinton a traitor to their gender.

just because it's 'aimed' at a demographic doesn't exempt it from being a shoddy piece of work.

Being one of two movies aimed at women makes it even WORSE, not better, because it's taking advantage of girls and women who don't have a whole lot of other options and pushing a narrative about how an unhealthy relationship is the ideal romance.

Sure, other movies and books do the exact same thing, but that makes them just as shit as Twilight.

being aimed at women doesn't make them worthy of respect alone.

if they're shit, they're fucking shit. 50 shades is fucking garbage and women deserve better.

(Anonymous) 2018-10-24 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
who gives a shit if it's "aimed at women"? women deserve better fucking movies than that trilogy of bile. raise your goddamn standards. jesus.

I'm not talking about other bad things, though. I'm talking about one bad thing, and other things being bad doesn't make the 50 Shades book not horrendously badly written.

I'm also not hating on the film, TBH. I went to see it with a group of friends who wanted to hatewatch it and... I actually kind of liked it. I know it's been said before, but it being a film stripped away the whole "oh god, the writing is so bad" thing, they tweaked a number of cringey moments to feel more understandable or actually romantic, and I found it well-acted.

Re: DUPLICITY

(Anonymous) 2018-10-24 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
why are you making it all about hating something that women enjoy as if any 50 shades hater is just some nasty misogynist?

it's a poorly written story about an abusive relationship and as somebody who was in an abusive relationship, it's a slap in the face for vanilla straight girls to parade 50 shades around like it's a romantic kinky masterpiece.

shit chick lit with problematic relationships is not a new concept but it's also not in my face with 20 movies. y'all should appreciate something wholesome like chuck tingle-senpai instead.

I'd be really curious to see how many people here have actually read these books. Because I feel like that would clear up a lot.

I read the first one and it was about as unhealthy a relationship as any romantic comedy.

Also can we acknowledge how insane it is that we're having the "this is abuse and it sucks" argument in the DUPLICITY THREAD???? Bit ironic.

ayrt here, i'm just a flatviewer that wanted to call out airt for their dumbassery.

(because i'm a misogynist!!!!!!!!)

i ignore duplicity comments so idk anything about it. you know, other than a bunch of flakes flaking on their other games so they can flake in this game. because they're flakes. i don't blame duplicity for that, i blame the idiot flakes who app to too many fucking games.

I would only app Ana if she could be a Dominant. I feel very strongly about this! And AFAIK the game doesn't let you pick?

Re: DUPLICITY

(Anonymous) 2018-10-24 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
That depends on if you TDM her as one. The TDM assigns, too, but if you get to TDM her as a dom, then you can use it as a pass to dom by linking your threads in your app.

Meanwhile NGL, I would RP Christian as being one of those “on paper, he’s actually interesting as a character, now if only the writer was aware that he was that kind of character” cases.

Re: DUPLICITY

(Anonymous) 2018-10-24 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I think if people are going to judge you because they're too set in their ways to read your posts then that's their problem. If I saw a Christian/Ana doing cool stuff, I would think it's really cool and impressive.

Maybe I'll TDM at some point! Low commitment, high voice-testing. I honestly agree 100% about Christian--and the same with Ana. A good writer could've made them very interesting, and instead they're only interesting in this weird metatextual way.
