Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.

Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

most players are lazy and don't want to be bothered putting in the effort or deal with any negative consequences which is why they prefer playing sol even if they claim to hate it

the players that do step up and engage with what the mods give them inevitably get wanked on by jealous lazy ones for "hogging the plot", "making everything about their character", or the old favorite, "they're too active"

mods can add a mission system to the game to let players run their own adventures complete with locations and npc monsters and it'll hardly get used because it takes more work and creativity to play that out than rping a coffeeshop run

i loved the plot creation part of modding but it was so frustrating trying to get players to actually DO anything with all the content we put time and effort into that they claimed they wanted

it's no surprise a lot of people like me who were willing to run plot-based games gave up on ever trying again

tbh your attitude is more offputting to me than some anon's gentle criticism

dont do that. thats a terrible idea.

its one thing if the player of the character can also play that character's AU version (in fact, that could be somewhat cool). but letting two players play the same character, one AU and one not? thats. not good at all. and the wank in the game is going to go through the roof.

i wouldnt want anything to do with a game like that, which is a shame because more horror/survival games would be a blessing.

i'm not so much against the idea of au versions in a game (there are already games that allow duplicates, incl au versions), but i'm noping at the notion of them being in competition with each other. 'canon vs au' is just begging for some highlandery wanky bullshit, and i guarantee it will definitely cross the ic/ooc line. especially when you have canon as the good version and au as the bad.

I've been tossing around a straight up clone of The Adventure Zone as an idea for a game. Set in Faerun, your character has been dumped here after the Hunger has devoured your world, but due to magic jellyfish shenanigans, you don't remember anything leading up to the day of the apocalypse. Mid sized player cap, maybe set to 50 for the first few months and expanded based on interest. Setting up with mini arcs to get to the bottom of the Grand Relics, but also mini arcs based around major towns within Faerun where stuff is just going wrong. Town corruption and political intrigue, besieged by raiders, demigorgon attacks, things like that.

Characters will have a very small amount of tabletop customization (str, dex, cha, etc) that will only ever come into play if they sign up for really high profile missions and success/failure depends on some d20 play, or, they're looking to play around with influencing the overarching plot. Home-canon powers will be limited to one ability in the beginning and have room for regains from major plot events.

Just a thought in the very beginning, baby stages of development. Anyone interested?

I think you've got some solid foundation, I am looking forward to this as well.

Does anyone remember the last time a charm mission or plot happened? I don't think any were doled out during the last breach and I actually forgot they were a plot point.

Another anon nthing this. My experiences with Coffee (and Dog as well) have been nothing but unpleasant. Going into details would out me, but two-faced and PA have it covered. It's the same old song and dance of PA backstabby bullshit anyway, with a side of her forcing out anyone she doesn't like (read: anyone who doesn't kiss her ass three times a day).

Coffee has also been known to boost herself up anonymously so in retrospect, all the positive buzz for the Riverview mod isn't surprising in the least.

more to the point, the gentle crit isn't wrong, and other players have been more vocal about their concern that some groups might unintentionally be shutting people out. the key word is "unintentional", and the above anon even said they're not malicious. no one in Fasti strikes me as mean-hearted or purposely out to wreck others' involvement.

in a small game you simply cannot be a player trying to grab all the shinies for you and your team and ignoring 90% of the rest of the game though.

i will note that some of the group in question have received crit, and they've been better about balancing things, so hopefully that will continue to improve

it's not deep but that said if I find a writer who plays a character I like, I'll only hit up someone else playing that character if say, my friend basically drops the character

I've run into a fair amount of people whose interpretations or writing styles I don't agree with, so if I find someone I like, I prefer to tag with them. I like keeping cr continuity. there is something to be said about exploring around other people with the same muses, but once I like a particular writer's muse, I don't feel interested in hitting up someone else with that muse

I will also add that she was a total PA bitch to me but sugar sweet to nearly everyone else and for the longest time, I thought it was just me and I was doing something wrong or maybe I was just overreacting. It wasn't until a couple of friends and I started comparing notes and going "wait a minute" that we realized.

It was gross.

blizz doesn't make that clear though. they just tell you that you can queue up for the horseman from 23 onward, which makes it sound like everyone who can queue up has a shot. they don't come out and say "but only characters at level 100+ have a chance to get the mount".

at least a few people strike me as mean-hearted and out to wreck others' involvement judging by wankgate and some of the negativity in the rpa posts for this game

when you have a wanker like michelle who's probably a mod that's not surprising (google her plurk and wg if you want deets on the wank)

but op doesn't seem to be one of those people and most players are fine

(Anonymous) 2018-10-23 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
i keep wanting to run a small organised sandbox where people accidentally crossover to a world full of superheroes and nonsense and the world is prepared for that sort of thing. no 'who are you??' or 'we need to learn to blend in and stuff' or stuff like that. just 'oh hey whoops do you need help?'

the gist is that there's this organisation that specialises in sheltering and housing 'dimensionally misplaced' individuals if they pop up. while attempts are made to locate their universe and bring them home, characters are provided lodgings and necessities to get by. since this is old hat for the world, it takes the org maybe two-three months to send the character back home.

until then, they have the option of being 'neutral citizens' (play sol stuff) or join affiliated groups with the org (play short potty stuff) to pass the time if they have the skills to do so. there are hints of a plot going down - someone has to figure out why it's happening more than usual or etc - but there's no pressure to join. enjoy the campy superhero world as is. become a local reporter and report on villains doing charity wishes. try to outrun the scarlet wind if you run into them. join an expedition and help find the lost city of detroit.

i am! i think it'd work well as a small capped game as long as you have a decent-sized mod team.

I joined over a year ago, haven't seen one handed out yet. Nothing with the key pendants either. I've made some suggestions and requests about them, but haven't heard anything back. Maybe it got missed? We've been dry on events for a long time too up until this month.

I'd also consider the first one to be a traditional AU. yeah you've got things like recolle where characters have different backstories, but if you're regaining canon memories then it's not an AU.

there would be no wank, there have been games in the past (and ones still running now) that allow two versions of a single character be played in much the same way.

it's not really any different than people playing multiple iterations of the same character, like just how mnay versions of the same Peter Parker Spiderman could theoretically be apped to the same game.
