It's sad seeing all the dislike for "grimdark" or anything moving away from the usual SOL. Yeah I get if you do want it then app to a game that better works for you, but I'm really excited for all this fallout and Otherworlders getting shit for it.

Now it’s turned into multiple characters all complaining that they can’t get into their favorite cafe. No points for originality either.

If we’re going to have this kind of fallout, it would be unrealistic to have the native’sprejudice go away within a month or two. We’re stuck in this tone change for the long haul, so lucky you.

I really hope they find a way to clear it up sooner, realistic or otherwise. Seeing all these characters getting thrown out of places and having to deal with messages like KILL THE OTHERWORLDERS is too much.

Why are the players in this game such babies? This is the most exciting overreaching plot we've had in ages where actions actually matter and have changed the setting. Can we please have this without everyone shaking and crying that it's too "dark" for them to experience even the slightest bit of fucking conflict?

There is slight conflict and then there is characters being threatened, npcs inciting murder and damage being done just because characters aren't natives. The whole setting has turned on them.

i'm all for there being consequences for what happened, but this is a bit much, especially for the characters who weren't involved in the whole thing at all. by all means, let the characters who chose to get involved deal with the fallout for what they did, and even some minor fallout for the whole game would be great. but this is a pretty major effect and i understand why not everyone is happy with it.

It just seems like the npc reactions are being turned up to 11? There was meant to be a lack of trust in otherworlders and discrimination. But everything is being exaggerated to the point where most npcs want to see none natives die.

Yeah all those posts are so INTERESTING and not desperate for attention angst posts.

I don't mind grimdark but I didn't sign up for that. And if I did or if it became a little tough for characters it would be fine if everything else wasn't lighthearted and the worst of the worst didn't feel the need to make it about them. I get that it's part of RP but I can't roll my eyes back any further because these people couldn't even wait a little between posts. Anakin basically doesn't exist and there he is for this. Minnie is as obnoxious and damsel as ever as are the other Disneys. It's not fun because our shit tiers are making it not fun. We get it you can't think of anything original and want that IC ass pat.

if you look at the task board though, there are npcs who don't like the pcs but are still willing to offer jobs to them and others who still believe in them. and the mod post didn't mention anything about threats or violence, just that pcs might have trouble buying things or keeping a job in some places. the word some got used a lot! so i think saying the whole setting's turned on them is an overstatement. sure, icly you can't ignore this completely, but your character doesn't have to deal with the stuff you listed if you don't want them to. that's not a definitive part of this fallout, other people are just having their characters' stores get trashed because they do want that. you can craft your own experience!

that said, while i'm personally digging this i get why other anons aren't. to the anon above me: different things are interesting to different people! there's nothing wrong with enjoying sol, and right on the game blurb it says that sol is a big part of emp along with adventure and plot. i'd like to see us all get what we want out of the game without anyone having the things they want to play get brushed off (and i know people who want more plot and higher stakes have felt like that too). everybody has their own preferences and that's valid!

i love a good change in game climate, but i just feel secondhand embarrassment for how hard some players are pushing the npc reactions to extremes. the mods made it clear that it wasn't supposed to be this bad.

Which is entirely on the individual players taking it that far. If you don't want to then don't. If someone else does then let them have fun with it. Every single person who is crying about "grimdark" should just leave if they can't handle NPCs being mean.

Whoa whoa anon what’s with all this vitriol? Not liking the plot and not wanting to deal with other character’s consequences is a perfectly fine complaint, and being forced into something you don’t like isn’t fun. I think everyone can understand having experienced that feeling at least once in their lives. Have a little empathy. No need for name calling, we all play here.

Your comment would just push the people who don’t like this away even more. The characters responsible are getting off with nothing but community service, while the other characters effected have to go through a lot more. Maybe some people want that, maybe some people don’t. Why not recommend something they can use to make the situation better? A way for their characters to have fun and not be as effected without pushing fellow players of the game away?

Hmmm it’s not so much being averse to conflict. I’m only saying that being nicer and trying to understand where the other side is coming from isn’t bad.

I’m having fun with the conflict, but some people aren’t. Why? I don’t think it’s because they’re “babies” or unable to tolerate angst. But the game now has this tone and they have to deal with this. These are people I play with and I like this game. It’s not a bother to me at all to try to help them find some fun with it, too. You can’t make everyone happy, but a successful game is going to have some sort of compromise or compensation.

Attempts have been made in the past anon, but there are players who just want to treat this game as a slice of life sandbox, instead of developing the game setting, the very intention of this game to begin with, and don't want their precious child to get harm or have any bad things happen to them ever or in their happy game.

I've been wondering why mods bother to put a bad end option in their events these days, cause the snowflakes are gonna just scream if we heaven forbid ever get even one bad end. I'm happy the option is there at all, but it always feels like a false choice with how people are in this game.

If you don't like a game with a metaplot that might put your character in an uncomfy position, don't app to games with metaplots.

Like, I sympathize with people who want to play out their SOL quietly, but you can't always have a conflict free opt-out when the plot is supposed to be gamewide and impossible to ignore ICly. I'm sure everybody's going to get plenty of time for cupcake parties and cuddle piles later on.

honestly i'm really liking this direction for the game -- but i'm also really new, as in, only been here a few months new, so i feel like my input doesn't really mean as much compared to the people who have been here longer.

but i enjoy both sol and conflict driven stuff, so.
