Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

if you look at the task board though, there are npcs who don't like the pcs but are still willing to offer jobs to them and others who still believe in them. and the mod post didn't mention anything about threats or violence, just that pcs might have trouble buying things or keeping a job in some places. the word some got used a lot! so i think saying the whole setting's turned on them is an overstatement. sure, icly you can't ignore this completely, but your character doesn't have to deal with the stuff you listed if you don't want them to. that's not a definitive part of this fallout, other people are just having their characters' stores get trashed because they do want that. you can craft your own experience!

that said, while i'm personally digging this i get why other anons aren't. to the anon above me: different things are interesting to different people! there's nothing wrong with enjoying sol, and right on the game blurb it says that sol is a big part of emp along with adventure and plot. i'd like to see us all get what we want out of the game without anyone having the things they want to play get brushed off (and i know people who want more plot and higher stakes have felt like that too). everybody has their own preferences and that's valid!

i love a good change in game climate, but i just feel secondhand embarrassment for how hard some players are pushing the npc reactions to extremes. the mods made it clear that it wasn't supposed to be this bad.

not in the game but this doesn't surprise me, it always happens in games. the harsher npcs treat their precious babbus, the more they can get that sweet, sweet h/c

I might be missing something, but wasn't the first post on the task board some anonymous person telling Otherworlders to walk off the island and kill themselves?

Re: nayrt

(Anonymous) 2018-09-04 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
that's the first under special tasks, yeah, but it's the only one on there like that and the first under general tasks is an npc saying that not everyone feels that way and that they're going to try to change other npcs' minds.

you're always going to have braindead attention whores who don't know how to do anything without turning it up to 11

I too hate other people having fun with conflict. If only they could see the light and start throwing more housewarming parties.

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2018-09-04 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
ignoring the tone being set by the mods is stupid, regardless of whether you're trying to throw housewarming parties or assuming the npcs are trying to murder your characters, you moron

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2018-09-05 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
there's a rather broad spectrum between "angry mob howling for your blood" and "housewarming parties" when it comes to conflict.

but of course, people like you only understand extremes.

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2018-09-05 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
by "people like you" you mean the entire game? because the entire game has this problem of not knowing how to meet somewhere in the middle of these two extremes.

too much nuance

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2018-09-04 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
oh, i know! that's... basically what i was trying to say? the anon i replied to said "the whole setting has turned on them" and i was pointing out that that's an exaggeration and it's perfectly possible for characters to only encounter little to mild hostility from the npcs if that's what their players prefer.

Re: nayrt

(Anonymous) 2018-09-05 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
All this tells me is that there are npcs who are still okay with otherworlders... and npcs who literally want characters to go die. You have to agree that one is more extreme than the other, so don’t be surprised if some characters get the worst of it.

I’m more surprised there isn’t more targeted hate from the natives at Velvet, Machina, Rokurou, and Laphicet for their involvement. Oh, you’re going to try to kill an important emotion spirit or help defend those that are? Go ahead, you’ll just get community service.

Where’s the NPCs throwing stones or rioting? I want shit like that. That would be a nice taste of grimdark

(Anonymous) 2018-09-05 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
velvet, machina and friends are being held in prison for the entire month i think. i'm sure it's going to get much worse for them once theyre out on the streets again.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-05 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
it is bizarre the characters that caused all this are mostly getting off free at the moment

their punishment atm is hilariously disproportionate

(Anonymous) 2018-09-06 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
From experience with having played a villain, I can guarantee that it will not get worse for them. That's just how RP works with heroes vs villains because it just wouldn't be fun for the villain players to be in jail the entire time.

I liked playing my bad guy because it gave me an opportunity to have them grow as a character over time. The outcome of this event would have made him at least pause to think that maybe this wasn't a good idea. Machina, Velvet, and co. are doubling down on their decisions with no development, but this is a choice from the muns to write them this way.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-06 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
for some characters it's more ic for them to double down. only way they won't is if they have something to actually motivate them to change. but i think only velvet is the one who will double down, which makes the most sense. from what i've read and heard the others will have different ways of development from this.

the anon i replied to made it sound like all the npcs want the pcs dead, and i was just trying to point out that the npcs have a spectrum of opinions and saying "the whole setting has turned on them" is exaggerating, and that players can choose to have their characters not deal with the worst of it if that's what they want. i wasn't trying to say anything about the people who are choosing the opposite; that first comment and two others i made trying to clarify have been my only contributions to this thread.

It's also basically tongue in cheek tone even if it's serious it's still almost a joke. People can't read news at 11.

(Anonymous) 2018-09-06 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
it's a joke because it works in multiple layers

1) who would actually be dumb enough to do the task
2) there is no perma-death
3) the task doesn't tell anyone to kill themselves. just to jump. this is where creative writing comes in and characters can find loop holes in the task, like jumping and falling on an airship our sprouting wings if they have them. hell, this is easy money for any of the dbz characters

That doesn't mean the mod post saying back lash wasn't that severe doesn't exist. If you don't have reading comprehension don't play in a game. I love conflict but I didn't sign up for shitty players crying IC for attention.

Re: nayrt

(Anonymous) 2018-09-05 12:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn’t this what some people want though? A more grimdark tone. Ffs we have people complaining that it’s too light and wanting some angst and now they’re complaining that it’s too dark. This fallout is the result of IC actions. You can’t win either way.

Re: nayrt

there is a huge difference between "locals are going to be jerks" and "locals will be lynching your characters".

echoing ayrt and saying if you lack the reading comprehension to understand you shouldn't be playing in a game
