Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

What's a reasonable turnaround for mod emails? I sent off a here's-my-test-drive-post-am-I-getting-any-worldbuilding-majorly-wrong email two days ago, and I'm jittering over it.

It's entirely possible that I'm just being impatient/insecure because I'm excited about the game. >.> Apps won't even open for like another ten days.

You're being very impatient. It's been two days. Chill.

Also I really don't think the mods are going to care if you got some minuscule world-building detail wrong in a tdm. Asking them to proof read your post for you is kinda nuts, anon.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-12 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
... Well, that is answering my question in a way, so thanks for your time.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-12 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
This.

Is TDM post approval in the rules, OP? It's not how most people go about that.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-12 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Nnnno, I just don't really know how TDMs are supposed to work. Some of them seem like they eventually become game canon.

I'm also somebody coming back to DWRP after years away (and I think my original games were pretty idiosyncratic?). There's a lot of jargon and a lot of etiquette I truly don't get, and when I think I've messed up, I try to test my assumptions.

In this case I guess I did the wrong thing.

That's fair! Yeah, it's not generally the done thing - TDMs are typically not considered game canon, so if you slip up with setting details, there's no real harm to it. Obviously you want to at least put in a solid effort to getting it right, but don't sweat it.

Personally I think it is reasonable to expect a response within a couple of days, even if that response is just an acknowledgement that they have read it and need more time to discuss with other mods. The exception would be if a timeframe for responses is actually given, then wait for that before poking.

But I wouldn't poke them about a lack of response until it's been closer to a week with absolutely no response.

But agreed with other folks, you probably could do the post without it. If you're impatient or concerned, maybe try posting it in your journal or on a plurk paste and have some friends in the game look it over.

And hey, if you mess something up, no biggie. You could just choose to not have that be game canon. Most games require both players involved to agree to it being game canon if they allow TDM threads to carry over.

Ohhhh sorry, I linked to my test drive post when I emailed the mods. I had already made it at the time. So that part's done!

Thanks for the advice about response timeframe. And the TDM explainer. I guess it all is pretty intuitive, it just feels like a lot at once.

You emailed, rather than PMing? Depending how the mod team operates they might not even see it for a while, if they use the mod account itself rather than the mod email account.

Also if you're worried about worldbuilding not specific to your character, it's probably better to check the player questions in the FAQ, or ask your question there yourself. Or check the game's setting/premise page. There's an 8 out of 10 chance that the major worldbuilding details are covered in one of those places.

+1

Unless they have their mod emails forwarded to their personal accounts, they'll probably never see it. Unless they say to email them in their mod contact, PMing them or replying to an FAQ/mod contact post is probably a better bet (I've seen a lot of TDMs have question subthreads too as the first comment, so if that exists, direct your question there).

TBH If they're not going to check it on a regular basis then they shouldn't have a mod email available to be used by players.

OP

(Anonymous) 2018-05-12 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the tips, anons! I did read everything linked from the navigation page re: premise, FAQ, etc, I just ... I mean, felt like I was missing some things, so I asked.

There were multiple contact options linked in the same place, so I assumed one was just as good as another.

... anon, if I was a mod and someone emailed me about 'am I getting any worldbuilding wrong in my TDM post,' I wouldn't let them into the game because that reads as both 'incapable of reading' AND 'incapable of being an adult'

(Anonymous) 2018-05-12 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Welp, that's where I'm at right now, so if they reject me, then good. I haven't done DWRP for years and I wouldn't enjoy playing in a space where you can't ask a stupid question now and then.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-12 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
there's stupid questions, and then there's asking the mod to hanhold you through posting to a glorified meme that exists pretty much solely to help you test your character voice and get a sample for your app.

the former is fine, if occasionally frustrating. the latter is a sign of a nightmare player.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-13 10:41 am (UTC)(link)
Lmao you've never been a mod, have you?

The amount of people who prove they are "incapable of reading" by fucking up setting details is way higher than you think. Someone asking just to double check looks way more attentive than player #8363662 talking about how pretty the stars are when it's stated clearly and repeatedly that there are no stars in the sky.
