Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

Okay I have absolutely no idea if this is an idea that's been done before in some form or not, and anyone who knows me and has read my timeline recently will know it's me posting this but IDGAF about that part.

"MerMay" has just gotten me thinking about mermaids. And this little brainstorm won't leave me alone and isntead hatched into something bigger.

Jamjar game (though debating making it an AU society thing with missions and discoveries to keep things functioning), no powers, everyone's changed into a merfolk of some kind (maybe adding in some of One Piece's fishmen (http://onepiece.wikia.com/wiki/Fishmen) to give more variety of the less "pretty" kind). Everyone wakes up in a safe refuge of a city, but the city is only a safe refuge because already-been-killed prey and food of any kind is not permitted within the city's walls -- all done to avoid bloodlust and feeding frenzies that may come with the natural instincts of most species. The city is the only place where no physical conflict of any sort is permitted, and it's the only guaranteed safe space in the whole of the ocean. However, characters are leaving that safety net regularly if they want to survive and no one character is off the menu for anything else in the ocean.

There would be a list of half-breed humanoid creatures your character could turn into (with traits included so you wouldn't have to go too far to look for information), and more creatures would be periodically added on player request (within reason, if there's overlap there'd be mention of subspecies as well), and information on the city, on surrounding areas, caves and crevasses to explore, sunken shipwrecks carrying clues about why everyone wakes up there (jamjar) and possible hints on a way home, or the shipwrecks can be of strange artifacts leading to a whole other world on the surface (AU premise). Whichever would work for the setting.

The game would probably have an age restriction on the players apping in as there is a high chance of descriptive gore in threads, and I'm actually a little tempted to put an age restriction on characters apping in too as it might be too much for some younger characters and I'm not intending to make a flat-out murder game here -- just one where it's hard to survive. Don't know if I should go for perma-death or if there should be a revival mechanic in the city, though I'm leaning towards the latter.

Anyway, that's what I've got so far RPAnons. I don't know if this has been done before elsewhere, if it has please tell me? I'd like to know where and when I missed the boat. And, if not... Thoughts so far?

(Reposted from the last meme as I realize it was possibly a little too late into the meme's life to get input).

Sounds beautiful and potentially spooky and having to adapt writing to take in the fact everything's underwater would be a lot of fun! It might be a little too AU for DW's tastes at this time unfortunately. But it might work as a small game! The deep ocean could be a really horrifying place and the survival against the elements (and big toothy fishes) sounds like a lot more potential fun than just a little mermaid rehash.

AU Deep Space Mission Gone Wrong - Seeking Comod

(Anonymous) 2018-05-11 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
hey gang, OP of that idea about a game loosely based on the concept of the movie Passengers, where characters are in stasis on their way to a new colony world and things go Horribly Awry and they wake up way too early and have to learn to work together to survive the rest of the trip. i'm apparently in the market for a new comod, as the one i originally had has mostly bailed on me. if there are any takers or anyone maybe interested in hearing more to see if it suits their particular mod hat, please reply here or PM me at [profile] soxtrot! thank you!

Aneira - panfandom high fantasy game

[personal profile] aneira_mods 2018-05-11 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
So, I made 90% of a game years ago and never did anything with it. There's a few things not finished, mostly just images in certain spots, but everything else is pretty much done. Here's the summary on the tin:

"The air is humid, the ground is nearly marsh, and it seems as if the trees speak to each other on a breezy day. All of the locals move about as if they are pulled by the same string and the wisp of something always on the edge of your vision keeps one curious on the nature of these lands, but you first must fully realize the nature of yourself before trying to delve any further. Some would likely wonder why they were brought here. Others would be curious on how they could leave. Despite the questions, the final line is that you are now here, in this very ancient land. The first thing you should do is survive.

"Aneira is a panfandom game based in a Middle-Earth setting inspired by Tolkien and the Elder Scrolls series. Upon arrival, your character will become a new species that they will have to struggle with in order to make life seem a bit more normal around here. Each species has four classes and each class carries a different ability special to their own kind. The name of the game is diversity and adventure, wonderment and the ever search for truth. Just don't search too much."

If left to my own devices, it'll never get off the ground. I'd like to hand it over to someone else who wants to finish (or totally change) and open it. There is an over-arching plot that I only remember the bare bones for. You can see more by going to this account's profile. If you're interested, respond or shoot me a PM.

The opposite of space games; pre-history games

- Takes place on the supercontinent Gondwana, Carboniferous period (so no dinosaurs, just like, little lizards and fish and invertebrates and stuff...or like an alternate timeline where animal life hasn't evolved it's just plants and shit)
- Survival and exploration
- NO TECH
- that's all I thought of

Re: GAME IDEAS Action/adventure in desert-type setting

(Anonymous) 2018-05-13 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Concept: In a desert based country, a number of archaeologists on a dig (think circa 1920s wild archaeological shenanigans) release a curse while excavating a long-destroyed city. This curse releases a number of furious spirits across the country, but also opens rifts for PCs to be pulled into the world.

Goal: PCs must work with others + natives to help lift the curse and get themselves back home. Other goals can be revealed as well.

Setting type: Roaring 1920s, but with ancient Egyptian styling and Roman mosaics.

Genres: Action/adventure. Potential light politics, but that wouldn't be the focus. Magic use would exist in world and be learnable to PCs.

Appable characters: Any canon characters, apping as a native would be an option, OCs, unsure if anything else.

Not sure if this is something anyone would want to run with. I can do a lot of the world building, but am unsure how good I'd be at confidently executing it as a game. I wanted to at least put this out there in case anyone else would want to move it forward.

THE GAME YOU FUCKERS REALLY WANT

(Anonymous) 2018-05-14 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Since every time a new game idea pops up at least half of you fuckers decide to tear it down and tell people what's wrong with it, let's find out what sort of game you assholes really want.

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SLHYHX7

This survey is 10 questions long, cuz fuck if I'm paying for a more in-depth survey, and takes like five minutes to fill out. Results are anonymous and you'll get to see what all these other fuckers have voted for after you complete the survey. Once an acceptable sample size has been taken, I'll post some results.

If anyone takes the quiz and has more shit they wanna say but can't because I didn't ask that question or you needed more space to write or whatever, feel free to respond here. Go nuts, guys. Tell us how you really feel.

Re: GAME IDEAS

(Anonymous) 2018-05-14 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
This is less of a game idea than a highly disorganized series of sandbox prompts for people who hang out on memes. I keep thinking about some kind of setup where the multiverse is falling apart. Instability means that characters can send others back in their world's time and making sure certain events do/don't happen. There's a small chance that manipulation can actually fix their dimension and give them a stable point from which to fix the multiverse. But characters can also just work with less scrupulous folk to change the world to how they want it to be before it ends in like a hundred years.

The catch is that you can't go back in time yourself -- you have to send someone else from another world, who's aware of the state of things, permission to enter your timeline.

Characters would be brought into the arrangement by text notification, floo network fires, ye olde alien messenger, whatever. They would have access to a contact list which lets them contact people from other worlds, and could also meet each other in dreams to vet potential timeline changers before they invite anyone into their world. Changing the timeline may cause status effects on the characters of that world if they overdo it. Too many changes can also shatter that dimension completely, and send all the characters from that dimension who were part of the arrangement crashing into another world.

It'd be very loose, with minimal modding, and would pretty much just give the OTAs a common excuse to tag each other and some continuity between PSLs. Characters on memes could just stick a symbol between brackets to show they're open to getting tags based on this setup on that post.

GAME IDEAS- "video game" fantasy w/ slice of life

(Anonymous) 2018-05-14 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
characters are all zapped into a video game fantasy realm to compete against one another in nondeadly battlefield competitions. told they need to participate to get home

powers/abilities are limited into a "move set". character without canonical powers are given magical abilities or existing powers are made to fit the game. no permadeath from the battles, characters just get to respawn with some aches and pains plus a knock to their ranking

character's aren't locked into factions, so teams are constantly being jumbled up and reassigned between battles. One battle you'll have your characters against one another, but the next time they may be on the same side. monthly buffs, nerfs, and reworks to powers, which I'm thinking would be a combination of AC reward and RNG determined. no character will get to stay the strongest or be stuck as weakest for long because "changes to the meta" happen regularly

between battles it's SoL downtime of characters living in a RPG style fantasy city. sex friendly game and maybe a few plotty events, but nothing overarching or heavily involved. Events centering around gaming mishaps (glitches, bugs, exploits) or high profile battles, which would have different themes or challenges. goofy/indulgent/fantastical tone over all with all the meta gaming aspects.

definitely open to more ideas on this one, if anybody would even be interested! mostly just wanted to ramble the ideas I'd had for a while.

moderated fantasy-Edo sandbox with slow moving optional plot

(Anonymous) 2018-05-15 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Inspired by Okami

A fantasy Edo-like city is surrounded by an evil aura beyond the city limits. By day it's mostly normal inside but by night, the aura strengthens and yokai are like to come out and play.

Jamjar, characters are brought in by the aura, locals are no strangers to new humans and nonhumans provided they don't reek of evil aura. Mostly SOL. If players are interested (and willing to put in the work) there is potential for a plot that would open up more of the world.

Quests are also possible with or without the plot. The local priests and shrine maidens can make amulets to protect against the aura.

It's still heavily in the works but I'm seeing if there's interest

has there been a game that takes place entirely on a ship

like a cruise ship I mean. Characters would be trapped on an enormous cruise ship for a fabulous trip of a life time!!!

(except they can never leave and it gets sinister. but it wouldn't be a horror game, at least not 100% a horror game)

2am short thoughts, sorry. characters wake up in an idyllic setting where everyone is happy, with families, whatever their player thinks would be a nice fantasy future.

and if they don't act the part, they get killed. with permadeath and power nerfing. they have to fool the npcs into believing they're one of them flawlessly, while finding ways to sneak around and discuss it with others, especially when it's hard to tell who is like them.

so far i've only gotten one mechanic down, which is to sacrifice some npcs who came in the same way characters did every so often to show characters that it's a real risk.

Zombies, Run!-themed game

(Anonymous) 2018-05-18 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
A few years ago I threw out the idea of a panfandom game based on Zombies, Run! Basically a post-apoc horror survival game with supply missions and world-building.

I would still absolutely be down for doing this - processing apps, throwing plot out, playing an NPC or two - but I couldn't do it alone and I'd like someone who's capable of doing graphics/layout. (Once codes are set I could more or less maintain it.)

The aim would be to have it go for two years, tops.

Is this something that players would be interested in? Would anyone be up to co-mod?

the basic plot of the series is a bunch of animanga, video game, etc. characters get pulled into the real world because someone else's creation wants to destroy it. they deal with the whole existential crisis of characters realizing their lives are made-up stories meant for people's entertainments, and they even meet their creators. creators are even able to rewrite their creations' abilities by gaining the public's approval (ie. accepting that it makes sense with the canon) and stuff like that.

translating this to dwrp shouldn't be too hard since the jamjar mechanics are already set but maybe instead of creators, it would be more focused on the one who roleplays the characters. players would be able to upgrade their characters by going through AC reward mechanics, and maybe through certain events, be able to interact with the characters (????). the plot will be heavily influenced by which direction the players want it to go, but of course that requires a lot of trust and minimal micromanagement from mods.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

idek if something like this would work, but it's just a thought that's been cooking in my head since i watched the anime. i haven't had the chance to really worldbuild or anything since it's just a base idea but yeah.

Half Life 3 Game

Or at least, a DWRP game set in that multiverse.

The Combine has appeared on the canon characters' universes, and the resistance manages to whisk out specific peoples to help them on the conflict to free a ravaged Earth and their home worlds from the multiversal empire. Now that I'm writing this, I wonder if there could be factions between the resistance and the Combine, although the Combine is ruthless and would rather tear the characters apart than reward loyal followers.

Given that the Combine was stated to be ridiculously, terrifyingly large in the Half Life 3 letter from Gordon Freeman, the game would have moments of horror (body horror and cosmic horror as trademarks of the Half Life series), with the general theme being badassery over overcoming the odds with creativity, although the worlds visited in which to fight the Combine would be laid barren at best, and twisted into horrors at worst.
