I actually like the element of improvisation that dice or a GM can add to pvp or pve systems, but the problem with Dreamwidth is that there's no integrated features on the site that facilitate systems like HP or dice rolls that I've used to good effect in other games on other rp platforms.

The best you can do is incentivize your players' creativity, but if you want something more stat-based, you're probably going to have to bring in some resources from off dreamwidth to keep everything fair. Unless you honor system it.

I'm gonna agree with the anons that have responded to you though-- your answers are super vague and without more detail none of us can really help you. It'd help to know what kind of systems you've seen implemented on DW, too. (Also, you can never guarantee that there will be no problem people. There will always be problem people. The question is only, what kind of problem will they be)

I play on both servers (horde primarily on WrA and alliance on MG) and while I don't have many recommendations, avoid shadow syndicate or whatever it's called on MG. Huge spammy guild for the most part, they're not wildly popular.

There's a wrymrest accord rp discord and probably an MG one, though I don't know for sure. I'm a lurker there but it is a fairly social server. Not exactly in game but it might help?

I'm always looking for friends/people to chat with, hit up ~socketeering if you want to exchange btags or whatnot.

I'm gonna go ahead and say it's a problem with players trying to speedrun dungeons without getting the rest of the party on board, no matter their roles.

if you like starting with the history, try thinking of how the characters reacted to those various events and build off that. say someone close to them died, did they get depressed? did they get angry and start acting out? did they try their best to stay positive because they didn't want others to worry about them? different reactions imply a lot about personality, so you can take those traits and expand on them.

i think it also helps to just pick a few interests and hobbies to really flesh them out. pick some things that seem obviously suitable (maybe a budding actress is really into makeup or watching movies or has a background in theater) and some that are less intuitive (the budding actress also happens to like gardening, or does roller derby on weekends). then think about why they like those things and their general thoughts on the subjects and how different aspects of their life relate and what that implies about their personality (does the actress that's into roller derby enjoy the thrill but quietly worry about getting hurt in a way that might hurt her chances at getting a role, or does she not think about that kind of stuff and screw herself over later as a result of her recklessness or lack of foresight?)

i primarily play video game characters anymore, but there's an mcu character i'd really like to play. it seems like y'all are generally not huge fans of mcu's in general, though. what are your least favorite things about mcu players, so i know what to avoid doing wrong?

6. honestly i know we're always told we just have to look harder for the Good RPers on tumblr, i always run into the ones with surprise trans/mental illness/sexuality headcanons, to the point of canon characters being basically ocs. and i want to play against canon characters in a more structured format than tumblr allows. i also don't really like all the things you have to do/download to make it work, and i don't care for coding shit as much as i'd need to in order to get traction there. ij isn't great for the panfandom scene, but it's my second favorite solely because it's a similar platform. however they have way too much downtime and recently a lot of spam.

the ones ive written with are generally quite insular (if they dont take over your game you can prob ignore them) and like to conflate things they have cherry picked out of the comics into their characterization even though it makes no sense.

for example a mcu tony stark player might think that having a drinking problem is great for character development but it doesn't make sense to just rando give him one so that you can be even more of a dick to everyone for the sake of some ~deep meaningful redemption arc~ which will probably end in some apologetic buttsex w/ bruce. assuming prior cr w/o discussion because they've stumbled upon this one google image of the characters chatting in the comics during the 60s is also a big red flag for some incoming cray cray

if you like mcu just write mcu there's tons of mcu charactes around but tag out of your fandom once in a while and dont do this weird movie comic clusterfuck of a character

2. what keeps you here? I've yet to find any other platform that does panfandom "games" the way we do, and that's what draws me to the format. I know I can get single-fandom games elsewhere (or could back when I was actively cruising for it), but I don't see a lot of cross-canon, shared-setting stuff and none of it includes the equivalent of a game-wide plot.

Also, this is the only way I can cling to my iconning hobby.

No heavy ideas yet but I'm really longing to play something involving mating marks, mating rituals and heat cycles. I've got the vague idea of this being set in an AU world like the in heat/in rut meme where such things are more common practice. Or we could have it be something much more bestial. I'd like to play the female but I'm open to playing the male as well.

tumblr is much more active, has a wider variety of characters to play with and players there are way more accepting of characters who are obscure and/or not conventionally attractive (which are what I play). it's great for all my gen rps but i can't get anyone to play smut there. it seems like most people on tumblr are too afraid or just don't play smut in general (and the few that do are shitty writers).

dwrp is where i get my smut rps and longer psls, and the two psls i have going are worth staying for.

question re: character types, if you don't mind me clarifying first before offering. are they canon chars aud, or ocs? medium for icons? age range? i know that specifics rely on who's asking what, but i haven't replied to one of these before and i don't want to be 'one of those people' that set something up or 'tease' at it and then radio silence.

make them act like the actual characters

don't just play the actor with a basic semblance of pretending otherwise

don't have them jump on every cock available

Been playing an MCU consistently for about a year as my main muse. Don't let the grumbling worry you too much anon.

Treat your new potential muse the way you would any other new character you take on. Beware of the typical RP mishaps. If it wasn't the MCU cast driving people up the walls right now it would be another cast. With Infinity War the MCU population spiked and any large cast will have it's not so great players.
