Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

hey there rpanons! forgive me if this is a silly question, but i'm relatively new to dwrp (i came from tumblr actually) and am wondering if a lot of people who have canon muses role play with OCs? and is it typical for one person to juggle several muses at once? i've seen many single-muse blogs on tumblr but the ones with multiple muses are usually frowned upon, for whatever reason. i can be very shy when it comes to asking others to plot so i was also wondering if you guys think that the dwrp community... friendlier i suppose? and are there a lot of thieves/toxic people here? because tumblr has a lot.

that sounds like a really healthy and balanced way of approaching it, anon!

how much does your schizophrenia affect your day to day life now?

1. Canon RPers will play with OCs! I think plenty of people are wary of OCs, so you may have a harder time finding this in open memes and will need to tag out more than be-tagged. And games will always be case-by-case, but I, and several friends of mine, have no trouble getting interactions with our OCs! I wouldn't worry about it.

2. It's very typical! Many of us have big muselists to even list out all the characters we play! The only thing frowned upon would be having multiple characters share one account. Because Dreamwidth lets you make as many accounts as you want under the same email, there's no reason for multiple characters to not have their own accounts.

3. Yes and no. There are toxic people. Anon communities like this are especially prone to salt - since it's basically our consequence-free-bitching-zone. There are bad players and there are drama stirrers. But I would say that you are going to see, or at the very least be stuck around, a WHOLE LOT LESS of them than tumblr's general rp community. We don't get fresh RPers very often, so it can take some time to integrate and find buddies to frequently play with. But the fact that people keep to themselves a little more, I think, leads to a lot less drama being shoved in your face.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-08 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
yes and there is a central ship that has various establishments on it (bars, library, gym, etc) that people can also use for socializing. personally, i never had much problem finding cross-ship CR - especially since you also have a new game wide mingle every month with whatever planet you're on and there's a network

you really wanna relitigate tumblr's boring agewank from last year so you can pretend there's more than one person who gives a shit about pidge being fuckable in this thread? sure, ""da"". let's do it.

from source: https://vtt.tumblr.com/tumblr_oaqc6uS3eF1vb9eln.mp4
"okay, shiro is an adult! everyone else is not an adult!! can you give me specific numbers, because yesterday you told me fourteen, and twenty-five, and late teens. is that still correct?"
"yeah that's a safe zone."

so if by loaded you mean "fan asked questions obviously directed towards the specific topics of pidge's age (fourteen), shiro's age (25) and everyone else's age (late teens)", then yeah. totally directed right there. you can keep arguing about it, but "yeah safe zone" does not make grammatical sense as an answer to a list of specific numbers. most fans are going to take "safe zone" to mean an answer to "late teens" and the rest as hard numbers. case open and shut.

listen. pidge shippers are hard enough to find as it is without asking them to deal with a whiny inability to handle anything that isn't flown on a canonical banner, jfc. just suck it up, call it aging up, and bring more interesting wank next time if you gotta.

What's the general rule of thumb when playing Wardens or Inquisitors? Does it have to be your own personal screen caps or can it be fanart/PBs/someone else's caps?

I've seen all those things 'done' but what things are more 'kosher' or the ideal?

I just bought PC versions of the games in the case of doing my own screen caps but if other options are ok then I'd rather get started now rather than later.

TIA!

ahh, thank you for answering!

i was still wondering about the oc thing, because if you've got more info on them would that make them more preferable to interact with? i mean, it'd be a good idea to at least give SOME information on them but i suppose that i'm just asking if there's something which makes them more likely to have interactions, idk. (sorry this it terribly worded lmao)

ALSO would it be acceptable to play multiple ocs from the same original canon? said canon having extensive lore and worldbuildig information. i'm also guessing it'd be a good idea to at the very least mention some aspects of said canon in the character's info page.

Related to the canon thread, I have an Allura I'd love to do shippy things with. Any and all canonmates are welcome, but paladins preferred due to more canon material to play with.

I'm starting to discover this about myself, too.

First month unemployed was AWESOME. Second month was okay. Each month since has been full of depression and feeling useless.

Most people are honestly looking for characters they know or castmates on memes, though information definitely helps (it helps even if you're playing a canon character), especially if you're assuming an established relationship between the characters. To get into games we have to do applications, so by default you'll have a bunch of info written out about your character anyway (it helps if the app is in the journal).

It's fine to rp multiple characters from a canon (original or not) on memes, but most games limit you on that front (either they don't allow you to do it at all, or they only allow a player to play characters that don't interact in any significant way).

Re: Dragon Age PCs

(Anonymous) 2017-03-08 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Anything goes, really! Using someone else's caps of their Warden or Inq would be crossing a line, though. If it's fanart, make sure it's actually your character.

TBH anyone who is on my plurk list probably knows who I am by now, haha.

It still affects it a lot, unfortunately. I have auditory hallucinations several times a week, and I'm not classed as fit for full time work (though I do work two nights a week now and I'm SO HAPPY because I've missed being able to work properly). I suffer a lot with paranoia, which makes dealing with large crowds, strangers, abrupt changes, etc difficult, but I get by. I'm a lot better than I used to be; and honestly, I feel very lucky to have the support that I have and be as well as I am considering the circumstances. I have good friends, I have fun a lot of days, and so it's not nearly as bad as it could be!

(Anonymous) 2017-03-08 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
different anon here! things that make OCs more appealing to play with include:

- A distinct "voice" and personality.
- Not being too "Mary Sue"-like
- (shallow, but:) good icons.
- having basic information readily available (like a profile/character sheet on their journal that mentions their age, height, hair/eye colour, how they dress, distinguishing features, etc. things that characters can observe and react to.)
- Being tagged by them, getting replies from them in plot planning posts, etc. Showing interest in other people's characters is a good way to get them interested in your character.

It might be weird for one person to play multiple OCs of the same canon, because in general, games try to have "players can have one character per canon" rules to avoid situations where players would be playing with themselves. If you had a friend apping in with an OC that shares history with your OC, though, that would probably be fine.

da

(Anonymous) 2017-03-08 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
For me, I tag OCs more in games because RPers in games take a hell of a lot more initiative than meme RPers (because lbr, memes aren't a hodbed of people tagging out), because the game offers some setting everyone agreed to by apping into it so it's easier coming up with something, because games usually have an assumed minimum standard of quality in regards to characters, and because games tend to have less people who immediately fuck off after two tags.

When I'm in memes usually all I have is...

1. A name
2. A general idea of what they look like from icons
3. A premise for a meme...and this is important because it's usually a premise and not a setting
4. And maybe a biography on your character page that I'm not going to read because if I'm on a meme I usually want a thread that's quick and dirty

So I'm more likely to tag people from canons I'm familiar with even if they're not canonmates as there's less work in getting a thread going. Also means if you tag me and get the heavy lifting of getting the thread started I'll definitely tag back so that's probably the best way of getting threads on memes: tag out. It shows some voice, some personality, and writing style.

Honestly it depends on where you live and if you can network. I live about 90 mins out of Chicago and most of the work I've taken is in the city (which is a pain for me travel wise since the only train stop near me is 2 towns over)

I work freelance, and honestly I've been out of school for almost a year and haven't landed a costume gig. Which is sad for me because I took more costuming classes while at school. Honestly I just throw my resume out to 5-10 different entertainment related places every week and hope someone looks at it. Which worked since I got my big break with a well known theatre group and they like what I've been doing.

I'm contracted with a theatre for their current season on 2 shows, meaning I'm going in person for a total of 4-5 days to work out kinks in my design and then I hand it over to the stage management. Most of my work is done at home, I put all my work on my google drive and send it to the people on the team that needs it for anything. But the overall time period isn't long at all, I think from start to finish on a show that just closed I worked on was under a month. I spent about 20-30 hours total on my design and all the in-person stuff that needed to be done.

Favorite part is just chilling with my residents/clients, chatting and being friendly and stuff. One in particular really likes to watch cute puppy videos on youtube so we'll just sit and watch them. She's also super funny so I love talking to her. I also like getting things done that the other PCAs aren't able to eg there's one resident in particular who is notoriously difficult to get ready for bed, but I can always get her down within the first hour of my shift.

Least favorite is getting punched in the face while changing adult diapers, or getting said diapers thrown at me. Also dealing with falls is very stressful.

Please app! It's a good time!
Personally I'm biased toward AU characters since, like the other anon said, it gives you excuses for past CR. Also I think there are only two active Templars right now and adding more couldn't hurt.

Super nice of you c:

This is Lucio (aka Lucifer, the head archangel of the Granblue Fantasy world) who is basically a HUGE DWEEB. He hates conflict, snakes, and apples, and likes human watching. You meet him when he shows up at a theater to tell you about the inevitable terrible catastrophy about to happen, and then gets mistaken as an actor. Two directors fight over him because they want him to star in their next play. He's useless, it's hilarious.

Then he shows up, joins your airship crew, and uses "former actor" as his cover story so he can go around and learn about the mortal world.

He's cute, fluffy, the supreme overseer of basically making sure the world doesn't get fucked up, and also kind of dumb. I love him orz
