hopefully this is okay to ask? i'm really new to playing main characters and main characters from a non purely written media. but i really wanna take up this character and jump into the pool!

what are common pitfalls that shiro players fall into? is there any generalised advice or suggestions that you would give to someone playing/looking to play this character?

I have literally no icons yet- and no idea who this account is going to end up going to- but hello fellow Ulaz! I have, uh, Ulaz, Thace, and Sendak.

(Ish. Sendak is an ish, because honestly, his character traits are 'spite' and 'bile' with a dash of 'smug' but...)

It's a recent addition so maybe the characters you looked at got in before it was added to the app? You could probably get away with linking a picture tho.

One problem a bunch of Shiro's fall into is playing the "space dad" trope into the ground. It's becoming annoying now. People level off bits of his personality traits and just go the dad route. It's fine once in a while because Shiro does care about everyone, but all the time is too excessive.

Something else to keep in mind is that Shiro actually has a range of emotions. We see that his patience does have an end and he can get mad and yell about something. He does worry a lot and retreats into himself a lot, but he gets happy and angry alongside his sadness.

Also, please don't push your ship preferences on people. This holds true to whether you ship Shiro with whomever you're threading with or if you ship some paladin/paladin ship. Basically, don't assume anything. Which, you'd think isn't worthy of a mention, but with this fandom it happens.

Most actual doctors just use webMD and wikipedia. It's scary, right? But true.

But yeah like above anon says, it's unlikely to come up in anything except really extreme horror games.

Also, remember that most other muns don't have detailed EMS knowledge. You'll be fine if you just know the very basics, and if you end up needing to know more you can just look it up as and when you need it.

I feel your pain, re: Sendak, since in a lot of ways even the BoM members don't have bunches of personality info about them out there so I find that a bit of a struggle, but also a lot of fun too--it's sort of freeing though as well as challenging.

But yeah, if you do find yourself making a Thace and/or Sendak, please do hit me up! I'd definitely be up for that!

I've had my RP partner for a few years now and sometimes I consider bailing. To say the tagging has grown lackluster would be an understatement and sometimes weeks will go by with no acknowledgment or explanation that tags or plotting are going to be slow for whatever reason. So I think that's a pretty natural reaction to want to get out of a relationship that's really based expressly on RPing.

If you do decide to move on, just don't be a jerk about it. Don't just disappear into the night. It's cruel and immature (I know because I did it once, for reasons similar to yours, back when I was a teenager. I'm pushing 30 now and it still bothers me).

LA feels like a small fandom right now. I see LA characters around all the time, but it seems like most games are all/majority toons. I don't mind playing with non-LA characters, but I miss games that used to have a balance.

I don't like the beyhive either, but completely disregarding someone's talents because they have an unfortunately loud subset of stupid fans is silly and small-minded.

Is this odd? I never thought about it because I typically play only one character for a while.

There are a few reasons for this, though, at least in my case. First, I don't watch a lot of TV or movies, though I do read a ton of books. Which actually brings me to the second point, even if I love a character and their canon, I personally have to feel like there's something to explore with that character that isn't being addressed (or is being addressed in what looks to me as an out of character way). If I don't want to tell/further their story, then I'm perfectly okay with just watching the writer/author handle it.

So yeah, one character happens a lot for me.

Same here, which is why I said it. The BBs were a fun change of pace at first, but they got obnoxious after a while.

Again, I'm glad they've been put on the back burner, probably permanently.

Let's say I want to use fanart for my character's icons. Should I credit the fanartist? Should I ask them for permission first?

What changes if I'm using fanart of a video game/comic book (not live action) character as a PB for my OC?
