imagine that you have a friend who lives in paris. no, not paris, france, i mean one of the very many parises in the usa. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_(disambiguation) or we could use another example like columbus https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbus but we're not talking about the one in ohio, the most well known one.

every time "paris" comes up in the news, they throw a fit because "ugh, it's always those fucking french people, why doesn't the news ever talk about MY paris???" even if their "paris" is a tiny-ass town that has nothing of interest.

in your opinion, how annoying is this?

Moderately. Not something I'd pick a fight over or anything but I'd eventually start seething every time it happened.

Very annoying and usually far from the only time they make things be about them. I also admit, I don't get why anyone would want their town to be in the news because that's usually not a good thing.

I have a friend who always talks about shootings or fires in towns miles away from her's and will go "oh I used to know someone who lives there I'M SO SCARED GUYS" or something equally embarrassing
