I realise this probably doesn't make me at all anonymous, but what the hey!

As one of the people who top-levels consistently in the intro logs with a link to one of the guides, the reason I do it is partially so that the link it out there for new people to see, and partially so they can then handwave that their character has seen it and absorbed a bunch of info without having to do the info-dump question asking.

However, I certainly never intended for it to cut CR opportunities off or be unwelcoming, and am open to other suggestions to how to get the link out there to newbies. Do you have any thoughts as to how to maybe make that possible?

anon, he asked me specifically to tell him why i didn't like the thing. i didn't really wax poetic about it, either. he had a discussion about it and basically ended up at: "i can see why you like her, and i like x and y things about her, too, but i can't really get past z, a or b."

he doesn't call the character that but she's basically his waifu and he self-projects onto her, so when my favorite character came up and everyone liked them and were heaping praise onto her, he lost his shit.

i don't mind if he doesn't share my opinion, but it's the issue of me having said weeks ago that a plot thread in a movie reminded me of something negative, and then they turned around, told me they thought i was wrong (i told him that's up to his view point, after all it is a movie and people will have different interpretations) and then he proceeded to lay into the movie he knows i'm fond of using that exact same critique, bending over backwards to make it apply, as if he's trying to attack me for not agreeing with him, the same way he did before.

all of these times, he explicitly asked for my detailed opinion. i didn't just hop into it. with the first one, i even told him i didn't WANT to tell him, but he kept asking, so i explained why i felt the way i did. if he doesn't want to hear my detailed opinion KNOWING GOING IN that it isn't a good one, then he should let me get away with just saying "i don't like it."

i had a friend similar to this a long time ago. i'd recommend stuff to them and they'd look into it and then they'd come back and tell me how shitty it was. there came a point when i'd tell them about something just to see if they'd start trashing it, and like clockwork they always did. weirdly, this would sometimes culminate in them liking the thing i suggested after they got done shitting all over it, but by that point i didn't want to talk about it with them anymore.

i often look back on that friendship and wonder how the hell i even called them a "friend", because they were abusive in more ways than one... and that was just one of several ways. i sort of get the impression they hated me, but were trying to express it in ways that would keep me from realizing it so they could keep using me as a punching bag to amuse themselves with.

imho, this sort of behavior is pure passive aggression. they're using the thing in question as an outlet to attack you personally while maintaining a veneer of plausible deniability. your friend isn't going to change because they're manipulative and immature, so i'd recommend bailing on this person unless you want to deal with this sort of thing forever. from someone who dealt with a person like this for years, just do yourself a favor and get away from them.

that really is EXACTLY what this person does to me! i had a lot of critique about a movie he was excited to see, because i saw it weeks ago. at the time he asked me my thoughts and wouldn't let me get away without giving him details on what i don't like about it. i already expected he'd disagree with me. he only just saw it since the new year. he also recently watched another movie, that i'd seen and loved- and immediately started critiquing that movie using the same critique i'd had, even though the genres were completely different, the aim of the film was completely different, and the critique he had didn't apply at ALL. it felt a little like he went in looking for things not to like about it because i'd critiqued the movie he'd been excited for

he won't let me get away with a simple response but gets his feelings hurt about it, and then looks for a way to lash back out at me for not sharing his opinion.

I'm not sure that would be appropriate because it's an IC resource, and not an officially updated mod resource.

Think of it this way

If someone's drawing really weird niche fetish art so much that it takes place of a real job, that means they're sitting in their basement all day being exposed to nothing but that. Lack of socialization probably means they're an unpleasant or highly awkward person irl. And what the fuck are they even going to put on their resume when they look for a real job?

I cold easily be a patreon slit and basically use it to camgirl, but I can't imagine that sort of thing makes you feel good about yourself, especially when it comes time to get an actual job.

That's about the same wage as someone working a "good" but highly part time job, which is what most people want to avoid. Do you have a real job besides that?

But having that huge employment gap whenever their patreon well dries up, if they do it for years, is basically a death sentence and will lead to flipping burgers at middle age unless they go to school and choose wisely/cheaply

patreon triggers me because it reminds me of an artist i know on there

she can do great work, but she's so unfocused that she almost never finishes a good, detailed, finished piece. you can also tell a huge difference in quality between her drawing her own characters or a pairing she likes, and her taking on a commission

if i see one more set of lazy sausage fingers from her i'm going to lose it

it's super rare for someone with no work experience to get a job that isn't retail or working with customers somehow tho

and again, i doubt that's something they care about if they're making enough money off their art to live... not saying it's a good plan, but i mean. it's not a great motivator for someone who doesn't need another job right now either
