Think of it this way

If someone's drawing really weird niche fetish art so much that it takes place of a real job, that means they're sitting in their basement all day being exposed to nothing but that. Lack of socialization probably means they're an unpleasant or highly awkward person irl. And what the fuck are they even going to put on their resume when they look for a real job?

I cold easily be a patreon slit and basically use it to camgirl, but I can't imagine that sort of thing makes you feel good about yourself, especially when it comes time to get an actual job.

if they're doing it so much that it takes place of a job, why would they need to stop and go get a different job

like... if they're making enough to live off of drawing fetish porn, i doubt they're going to want to stop that just so they can go out and deal with customers for 8 hours a day

I'm sure there are jobs beyond ones where you interact with customers

But having that huge employment gap whenever their patreon well dries up, if they do it for years, is basically a death sentence and will lead to flipping burgers at middle age unless they go to school and choose wisely/cheaply

it's super rare for someone with no work experience to get a job that isn't retail or working with customers somehow tho

and again, i doubt that's something they care about if they're making enough money off their art to live... not saying it's a good plan, but i mean. it's not a great motivator for someone who doesn't need another job right now either

That's not exactly a difficult thing "freelance artist" would be one thing they could put.

That's going to depend on the person. If they only have furry porn then yeah, they'll be in trouble unless someone is actually looking for an artist that can do that. If they've drawn other stuff then that's their portfolio. If it comes down to it, even some of the porn could be useful as long as the X rated parts are cropped out, but again it all depends on the artist.

no one asks you for proof of your freelance work unless you're trying to work in the same field as your freelance work and even then, they want your portfolio of work, which isn't always going to be things that were produced for clients. in fact, there are a million business terms you can throw around to obscure where the art outside of your portfolio samples went, including but not limited to just saying that you can't discuss prior work due to signing NDAs on some of your projects.

So, I've gotten to know a bunch of niche fetish artists through RP and just generally being a bit of a freak, and in my experience the ones who actually make good money off it have their shit together and either (a) do other professional, artistic work as a primary job or (b) do a really broad base of different commissioned work outside of one specific niche.

Sure, there are socially dysfunctional, unpleasant folks out there too, but they tend to struggle professionally as well as personally, because ultimately they still have to promote a product/service.

But, hey, if it makes you feel better to assume that everyone who does well at something you find weird must be some grimy basement-dweller, you go ahead and do you, anon.
