Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

i make hypnosis fetish stuff and get like 1000 a month, which isn't enough to live on but for something I work on for maybe ten hours a week, it's good money.

That's about the same wage as someone working a "good" but highly part time job, which is what most people want to avoid. Do you have a real job besides that?

I have a part time job, yeah. I could probably get a full-time job and make the same amount of money and spend the same amount of time 'working,' but coding hypnosis games or whatever is more fun, I can do it on my own schedule, and I don't have to get dressed up or anything.

It isn't a sustainable career path, my patreon numbers kind of fluctuate and I doubt I'll be making any money three years from now, but for right now it's an easy way of making money. If you want my advice, if you have even a slight bit of talent at art and/or making games, go for it - so long as you market it on sites like 4chan and 8chan and subreddits for the fetish, you'll get at least some attention, and if you make subbing to the patreon appealing (my advice: have a free version that's a version behind the patreon-subscriber version), you'll probably make money. Even $100 a month is pretty decent for how little work you have to put in.

I'd also say don't force yourself to try and pick a 'popular' fetish, but choose a fetish that has some real appeal to you. That way you'll enjoy the work more and also know how to make the game more appealing to fans of that fetish.

how'd you get started doing that, anon? i've always been curious about what it takes to break into the fetish art market.

not ayrt but first of all: decide what market you want to bust in on, it should be one you're interested enough in to draw for without being paid for it (which you will have to, at first). the weirder the fetish the fewer but more devoted the people. if you do something basic or common, you'll be fighting a lot of very skilled people for the dollars.

then you find where your audience is (furaffinity, twitter, w/e) and start producing the art you want them to pay you for. they'll start coming to you to see it. open commissions, do a few too-cheap sales if need be to bolster your samples, and you're basically in.

there's extra things like:
-if your target audience is on twitter, just go in and friend people and their friends and their friend's friends; some of them will friend you back, then you've got started on your audience-building. (and i say twitter because it's so much easier for your work to circulate, same is true of tumblr, but NOT of places like deviantart/furaffinity.)
-do free art for big name people a couple times. they'll be excited about it, then so will their fans/followers, who will in turn start paying attention to you.
-idk that's all i can think of right now but just two bullet points looks weird
