as someone who's been called 'intimidating' in every fandom circle i socialize in, yeah, it's fucking annoying. it's not a compliment. i never try to become 'popular' or 'intimidating', i guess it just means i'm fucking likeable and don't mind approaching others for things? being told i'm ~~too scary to approach is something i have no response to. i'm just a fucking nerd who wants to rp or talk about fandom and be myself man why does that bother you so much.

oh and since i'm here and ranting and it's late and who cares, i also hate the "do i intimidate you" plurk meme for this reason

after the zoo arc i can honestly understand why jasper might feel that way about herself and it is kinda annoying, ngl. earth gems are basically treated like shit and are probably always reminded of how they failed to protect their diamond and how it was one of them who killed her. jasper's obv treated better than those amethysts so it might be self-induced guilt.

so was anyone else disappointed with this event?

i feel bad because the mods are so friendly and they work really hard, but every time a new tdm goes up i think "i wish some of these prompts would happen in-game, they're so much more fun than what we actually get"

I've been feeling that way for a while, too. With the last event especially, it felt like we were trapped in a featureless area for way too long with very little payoff.

I think they've been appearing randomly, i.e. whenever someone feels like posting one.

there could have been more to do and i do get why some people are eh on it but I had a chance to have my character interact with CR that they've never seen face to face + random strangers. last time we hashed things out anon i said i wish we would have more stuff like the dream event where there was an excuse for characters who never interact to interact and lo, it appeared.

plus got an item from my character's canon that i'm going to be able to do a lot with

plus got a major plot reveal about an aspect of the mystery i'm really interested in

CR meeting face to face was great but when you don't have anything to actually work towards achieving with that CR, threads get stale really quickly

what part of the plot were you interested in that got revealed? I feel like this is all sort of stuff we already knew

very. it would've been easier to stomach if the mods hadn't unnecessarily stretched it out over such a length of time. why bother? was that supposed to make up for the delay? a boring white room is still a boring white room no matter how big it is.

what would have made this very fun though, is if more npc posts had happened. why did the mods set up a blank canvas and then only give paint to a few players? aren't there four mods on the mod team?

I'll wave a little flag in your corner. I get told my writing is intimidating. Look, yes, I'm a good writer. I've been doing this for decades. I'd better be good at it by now. I also know what I want in rp by now. So if I'm writing with someone, its because I want to write with them. And pulling this shit about how they can't write with me because my writing is 'intimidating' just tells me they're looking for an excuse not to write with me, not that I'm amazing. It's not a compliment, guys. It's an insult and a cheap excuse. Just say you're not feeling the thread and drop it instead of dithering at me.

I'm in a non-American timezone and can't stay up until some godawful time in the morning for east coast midnight anymore due to having a 9-5 job, but I still wouldn't have them if I were ever to mod again. It's extra work, and as a player, if I put the time in to writing an app, I don't really want it wasted because someone challenged me. First come first served.

If the game had no formal app round but just accepted them whenever, then I wouldn't allow app challenges. Instead I'd have maybe a week or ten day long reserves.

However, if the game has discrete app periods, then I would allow app challenges because honestly if there are multiple gunning to play a particular character in my game, then I want whoever looks like they're gonna be the better player. Plus, speaking from past experience, sometimes app challenges can help give that excuse not to let in a player who you know is gonna be annoying as fuck to deal with either as mods or as fellow players.

In this second example, though, I'd probably still have 'reserves' but I'd call it 'intent to app' instead. Let's people know you're considering it but isn't mandatory. However, could be useful in case of needing a tie breaker.

oh, anon. you don't rp much, do you. mods are always biased. i've seen numerous complaints about 'time zone bias', particularly if mods don't go by an american time zone (and then again if they do because 'gmt should be the normal one'). people will always bitch because someone is always getting left out. it's the nature of the beast.
