This is a weird thing I've noticed - as someone who's always played dominant characters (I'm m/m trash yes, but bear with me).

Players always seem to gravitate towards one role or the other, is that a thing? Like, I have friends who always take on a character with a more submissive personality, even without thinking. But then on the other hand, I have friends who've always played the more dominant role.

It's just sort of interesting that there's a preference - I'm curious as to why people choose between one and the other. Yeah, on one hand, it depends on which character appeals, of course, but there's definitely a preference that comes in before you choose the character you want to play, too - and of course, what role you write in threads.

I naturally gravitate towards assertive, or at least, nasty bad guys who will fuck everyone's shit up. But that's just my jam.

BASICALLY (wow this got convoluted) anons, do you prefer to play one role or the other - and why?

Nitpicking but you didn't exactly reply to your own question, i.e. why you "naturally gravitate towards assertive, bad guys".

I usually play characters who are nice because I don't like bullies or bad guys in fiction any more than I like them in RL.

I've done the thing about dreams, so while idk if I'm the person you're talking about, if I am and it's made you uncomfortable then I'm really sorry.

Regardless of whether it's me or not, though, tell them. It's better to be upfront, and if they're your friend I'm sure they'll understand.

backtagging - tagging old threads. i'm not sure how long threads/scenes/whatever you call them usually last where you're coming from. but "open to backtagging" basically means you're willing to keep tagging the thread even if there's a long time between replies or (if in a game) it's an older thread and your characters have moved on to different things that take place later on.

some people lose interest or can't keep up motivation for older or slower-paced threads, but with more people tagging slower in general most of us are open to backtagging now. i'll go for about a month or so in game before i try to wrap it up or let it go. meme/psl threads i'll tag indefinitely.

cr - "character relations". basically what it sounds like, the relationships your character has with others in a game. so "close cr" is the character's closest friends, "negative cr" means an antagonistic relationship, etc. can be used in a general sense referring to all relationships ("cr meme" - for planning stuff/seeking out new people to thread with in game) or in the singular between two characters (telling bob's mun "i love danny and bob's cr!")

infomodding - when your character knows more than they should, a big no-no. often used against villain characters, as when other characters have a "feeling" that the villain can't be trusted even when he hasn't done anything wrong in-game and there's no way they could possibly know he's the bad guy. can be abused either by bringing in your knowledge of canon (that your character has no way of knowing) or your knowledge of the other person's future plans for their character (same).

Maybe I've been conditioned by LA trailers too much, but I feel like it's laying things about Shiro on too thick for him dying to be what actually happens

You're defs right, I'm just kind of interested to hear other people's reasoning - as you said; RL preferences always feed into how you choose a character, up to a point. My own reasoning doesn't mean it's the same for someone else. It's interesting to see the differences in preference though, and how that dictates how we right or approach an ic interaction :)

i tend to have a variety of personalities that have the same trend of trust issues/grey morality and good intentions, but they're definitely all very dominant personalities

they're also all very dominant in those kind of threads, but there's a few of them that'll power bottom or tease the everliving fuck out of their partner

i couldn't tell you why those in particular but i just find them very fun to play? and i apparently play them well, so that's a bonus

PSL where a royal is given a slave to do with as they please. The royal and the slave get along well enough and eventually, they starting having sex. Feelings happen somewhere along the line. Eventually, the royal is arranged to be married to someone else, and drama ensues between them because of their feelings for each other.

Basically, I just want to play out something where a royal and a slave go from having wild, dirty sex to cute, fluffy sex with lots of feelings thrown on top.

Stuff to include could be size/age difference, some bondage, possessiveness, sex in public places, sex in front of an audience, dirty talk, marathon sex/short refractory periods. Bonus points if the royal is something not human. I'm open to adding plenty of other things besides bathroom stuff or vore.

I can do m/m or m/f, with a preference for the male royal in m/f and the slave in m/m. Prefer LA characters, more than okay with OCs. Leave a sock?

Yeah, the traits (whiny, dramatic, vain, hotheaded etc) are all there, but he's definitely not as high energy or extreme as fandom tends to portray. Still, it feels like they toned it down even more for the anime, but like above anon said they probably did that because he's a lead so they'll come into play for comedy/drama.

In RP I really just like having the most options possible. I enjoy characters who take on different roles depending on how close to someone they are, or change roles only when there's a power imbalance they're trying to subvert. I may also have a weakness for villains who vacillate between violence and laziness.

As much as I like j-fandom's interpretation, it's kind of nice to see such a sweet take on their dynamic tbh.

That said, Hanamaru won't be the most official anime adaptation. UFOtable's is the one that's going to be overseen directly by DMM (Hanamaru wasn't), so there's still the chance of Hanamaru canon being jossed. I think most people going into a fandom like this would be, or should have been, ready to be jossed though.
