I agree that with some trolls it makes a lot less sense (IE the Dualscars of the universe) but on the other hand...younger trolls who have the priviledge to know about their ancestors (Vriska in canon) look up to them as mentor figures. I fail to see how having the kinder hearted Ancestors looking to their Descendants as something of value is unreasonable. If only because they want them to turn out "right."

And in terms of more ruthless ancestors, I could easily see them taking on a vaguely mentoring ish position in the average jamjar, if only for the purpose of using the respect they'd have from their descendant as a means to use them as a pawn.

I think saying that THIS IS COMPLETELY UNREASONABLE or MOMMY DADDY TIME ALL AROUND is seriously oversimplifying the issue.

Also, once again WHY DO YOU GUYS HATE FUN SO MUCH??

No one hates fun. People just don't want to see something that goes against what we have been told in the story. A perfectly reasonable thing to want. In the story, trolls don't have mother or father figures because their parents are animals that aren't even capable of regular speech (until they were prototyped at least). Vriska also says that descendants look up to their ancestors as legends and try to follow in their footsteps normally. The concept of parents, who are the same species and act like a human mother and father typically would, does not exist in their culture.

No one is talking about whether or not an Ancestor can take them on in a mentor/student relationship, the topic is people who literally have Ancestors act like parents to the younger trolls. That is what's wrong, as defined by canon. Personally, I can see something like what you described. But someone acting as a mentor figure =/= someone acting like your parent.

Not being familiar with a concept also =/= not wanting it, for the record.

Just because trolls don't normally have a human concept of parents doesn't mean it's impossible for them to enjoy such a relationship. And on the subject of Ancestors, the original revolutionaries are some of the specific trolls that WOULD understand that concept. (Because you know. Signless and Dolorosa.)

But yeah I mean obviously that's not something that should just happen out of nowhere. But people being shitty at executing a concept isn't the same as the concept being bad.

Saying that these ideas are objectively wrong is also kind of unfair.
