MAGICAL GUILDS/FAIRY TAIL (SERIES) AU
(Anonymous) 2012-03-27 05:16 am (UTC)(link)The main focus will be among the guilds, their involvements both negative and positive with each other. Guilds will be given posts of job requests to fight for or work together for. Above all of the guilds is also the guild council.
Overall the game would be very highly fantasy, with regular mini-plots focusing on the guilds. Players would be given the option to create their own guilds as well as the one's currently existing in Fairy Tail.
Would anyone be interested in something like this?

I've decided to go through with this, but I'm hung up on what to actually name the game! The only thing I can really think of is fiore. Any thoughts?
Re: GAME IDEAS
(Anonymous) 2012-03-27 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)Characters that are apped in have their currently existing powers stripped down or redefined, characters without any powers become NEXTs and gain some based on a reasonable extension of some pre-existing skill/interest/whathaveyou. Or! Characters can also be apped in to fill more mundane job slots, like what Agnes does, and simply hide their more extraordinary abilities.
yeah idk.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-29 03:22 am (UTC)(link)Every month another troop is in the limelight. They have to perform threads specified by the Theater Master and/or threads requested by anonymous/non-game voyeurs (like people from outside the game would ask for performances. Like you love reading a certain type of thread, but you suck at playing it out or you're too shy.)
Meanwhile, troops that aren't performing have to service clients. Again, clients are non-game members who show up and ask for smutty or CRly threads. A performer can always turn the client away or ask the Master to intervene, but clients can bitch too.
Performers console each other and have huge inter-troop dramu the whole while. Good performers (either in the opinion of the Master, or based on public feedback) get better quarters and more freedom. Bad performers get hilarious shitty threads to play out. (So it's still interesting to suck, either on purpose or not.) The Master will move people around in troops to create troop "styles." Probably "comically bad", "high-class", "daily melodrama", and "experimental."
Sample plays:
"The Story Of The Foiled Lovers: Riku and Kairi are next-door neighbors in a medieval city. Each day they pine at each other romantically from the windows. Each night they try to sneak into each other's bedrooms to try to get dirty. But every night, their servants, Sora and Xenahort, interrupt them. Play out one such night where Sora keeps forgetting things so that Riku can never go, and Xenohort keeps telling Kairi tragic stories that turn morbid, so that she's not in a romantic mood any more. The play ends however the actors decide is appropriate."
"Gokudera and Mukuro are farmhands on a carrot farm. One day, one of them pulls up a carrot that looks like an enormous penis. Every time one of them comments on it or says any word that is a euphemism for penis, the carrot gets bigger. The play ends when one of them takes a bite, whether voluntarily or by force."
But the Master only suggests plays part of the time. Most of the time, it's anon/external suggestions.
Everyone watches and lulz.

(Anonymous) 2012-03-31 01:54 am (UTC)(link)MASS EFFECT GAME.
(Anonymous) 2012-03-29 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)So what would you guys want?
I know I think if it's going to be an OC game, the Normandy and crew shouldn't be playable. I mean, we all know they've got important shit to do and we know their story. But how far should the 'minor character' rule go?
Someone mentioned making it like the multiplayer of ME3. I think that would make it interesting. I think it'd important to include the civilians, because it's always good motivation for the soldiers and Reaper bait is always good. I like the idea that there'd be so many options: civilians, c-sec, alliance, doctors, ship crew, biotics, asari, hell any of the alien races and their respective military. There could even be goddamn pirates.
Re: MASS EFFECT GAME.
(Anonymous) 2012-03-29 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)1. CHARACTERS
Should canon characters be able to be applied at all?
Should primary Normandy characters such as Shepard, Garrus, Liara be able to be applied?
Should character who aren't primary squadmates as of the Reaper War but still important (Jacob, Samara, Wrex) be able to be applied?
Should major figures of authority such as Hackett, Victus, Aria, the Council, etc. be able to be applied?
If certain canon characters should not be able to be applied, should they still maintain a presence in the game as NPCs?
Should OCs dervied from the "GALAXY AT WAR" multiplayer be able to be applied?
Should characters from other non-Mass Effect canons be applicable as AUs tailored to fit the Mass Effect universe?
Should characters from other non-Mass Effect canons be applicable as their canon selves, brought in by some kind of jamjar-game type of occurence? (e.g. THIS MASS RELAY KEEPS SPITTING PEOPLE OUT AND WE DON'T KNOW WHERE THE FUCK THEY CAME FROM)
3. SETTING
When along the timeline of the Reaper War should the game start? Prior to the war? As the Batarian Hegenomy is being destroyed? As Earth is being attacked? After the fall of Earth?
How quickly should time pass?
To what extent should Shepard and the Normandy's escapades affect the game?
To what extent should the events of Mass Effect 3 affect the game? (eg. To my knowledge and I may be wrong on this, all Alliance forces besides Shepard were either on Earth, building the Crucible or providing assistance to Alliance colonies, never being able to spare the forces to assist other militaries throughout the galaxy, how strictly should this be adhered to?)
awww yeah
(Anonymous) 2012-03-30 01:44 am (UTC)(link)Mixed races and positions make for a variety of possible sorts of people and interactions. Everything from civilians to military forces to pirates.
I beg of you, let's find an alternative to interactions than having comm devices handed out to everyone to blog on.
1. CHARACTERS
Characters who are playable in the videogames, or busy on the Normandy at the time this game, should not be appable. We agree: they've got shit to take care of.
The thought of players having the reins on the Council is hilarious, and it will likely bring the galaxy to doom all the more quickly. This is a Good Thing, right?
Minor characters from the extended universe sounds fine: it lets us flesh out the universe with enough familiar faces and locales.
Jamjars: please no.
If characters from other universes come through with powers intact, some of them would be able to kill the Reapers and any other major threats. We don't want that.
Turning them into Mass Effect AU characters sounds fine, though. There are enough weird little settlements out there to explain all sorts.
3. SETTING
Set it somewhat before the destruction of Earth, so that it can happen in-game and cause many tears for Earthling characters.
Passage of time... Slower games are nice. Maybe a 2:1 or 3:1 ratio of days?
How much ME3 affects the game depends on which characters we can play. If we can play the Normandy crew, then they'll be in contact with our other characters, and probably make different choices. If not, then mods can have them stick closely to the game script.
It also depends on how many characters in positions of power can be played by us. Alliance forces went where they did because they were ordered to. If some of our characters give the orders...
What happened to question 2?
Which Shepherd should it be? M/F, back-story, paragon/renegade/other?
Do we want to play out the struggle of the galaxy's sentient life to survive, and if so, how intense should things tend to be?
Will there be surveying mini-games?
Re: MASS EFFECT GAME.
(Anonymous) 2012-03-30 06:31 am (UTC)(link)as for comm devices: I think that's solved by the setting itself? extranet and most people can actually have datapads. so I think e-mail like communication could be possible. like how Shep gets all those e-mails from people. otherwise I do like the idea of making the game more focused on in-person interaction, but unfortunately it might put off a lot of people since for many such interactions require more effort for some reason, even if it'd be possible to do them in quick action format, instead of prose logs.
with the council, I wouldn't mind giving players the reins, but how likely it is that someone would apply them? and what's up with them before they are applied? since they are a rather important part of the universe, they'd have to be NPCed before someone picks them up. same goes to authorities, though I'd say the highest ranking should be NPCs.
agreed re: minor characters that aren't a part of the Normandy crew.
agreed re: jamjars, NO. if you would want to allow characters from other fandoms they need to be AUed to fit the premise. it's the easiest way to go about it, even if there'd be characters with whom it'd make sense to leave them as they are (Transformers come to mind, for me: powerful, but they wouldn't be able to one hit or two hit the Reapers to kill them, etc), but making special rules for certain canons isn't a good idea.
yeah, setting it prior to Earth's fall would be nice. and the major events in the ME3 game could be major events in the RP as well, spread out and affecting the playable characters in some way or another. so IMO that's the only way Shep and co's escapades should affect the game?
I agree about having to pick the route for Shep as well. which version of them and what choices did they make in ME1 and ME2 and what choices there would be for ME3 (which I think should be decided at the start already).
I'll probably have more but I just got up hah
Re: awww yeah
(Anonymous) 2012-03-31 10:10 am (UTC)(link)I enjoy the idea of it being a game that's held up equally by Galaxy at War-style OCs, other non-military OCs (civvies, C-Sec, etc.) and minor characters from the series, like Kal'Reegar, Sidonis, Charr, whoever (oh god why did I pick such an unfortunate crop of characters...). With some AUs to fill things out, of course.
Anyway. Question 2 was just a question about what factions should be appable and a big list. I thought about it and felt it was a bit superfluous, but I can post it anyway if you want.
Pre-Earth sounds like a good idea, I do like the idea of having a chance for everyone to get acclimated and then playing out the Reapers ripping through the First, Second and Fourth fleets. The question is, how far in advance it should be - I think it should start around the events of Arrival at the very earliest. Maybe sometime between Arrival and the Reapers tearing through the Batarians.
Personally, I'm not sure whether Shep should be M/F, Paragon/Renegade, etc., I do, however, think that we should assume that Shepard made the choices that saved the most characters, such as Veetor, Kirrahe and the like, to leave the largest variety of characters appable. It'd probably also be for the best to assume that Shepard went and did all the events of the DLC in all three games his/herself.
This is just me, but I think the game should be similar in tone to Mass Effect 3 itself. Depending on your choices, Mass Effect 3 had the potential to be a depressing, painful, emotionally exhausting death march towards the end of organic life as we know it with countless losses and sacrifices along the way, and even if you make the best choices, it's still pretty close to that, but there are lighthearted, humorous, and triumphant moments there too. I mean, I think that's a big part of what makes us love Mass Effect, is its ability to mix tone without it feeling like there's too much dissonance between the awesome moments and the heartshattering deaths. So, to answer your question, I think it should be about the struggle of organic life to survive the onslaught of the Reapers (and the fuckery of Cerberus), and all the intensity that entails, but there should be downtime too. There were lots of soldiers on the Citadel just trying to chill out for a few moments, after all.
Y'know, whether or not there should be scanning minigames, I kinda wanna translate those hacking minigames from ME2 into the game somehow, even if it's just "she pored over the data stream, matching the code fragments with lightning precision" as opposed to "she crouched and watched a bar fill up for the 4th time in a row and then fought the urge to yawn because holy shit this objective is boring."

So in other words, a game that differs from the standard jamjar formula in that characters actively choose when they come and go.
It's been pointed out that it won't work well for any character who won't willingly be social, and I'm not really sure how I would fix that under the premise. Would a dressing room work better for this?
