I had a fleeting thought about adding onto the Zack population, but I sucked last time I played him. Never felt like I was being social enough.

I'm more surprised Sephiroth beat out Aerith and Cloud. I know he's popular too and some of those are players in multiple games, but still.

I've thought about trying out Zack a time or two, but I just can't get his voice down. Not sure why, I love playing the cheerful characters! I might give him a go someday, who knows. It would be hard to find a balance of having him active and out there doing stuff, I'd need the time to really focus on him since he's the go-getter type anyway.

I've noticed that there are several muns that are repeated on that list. Like, there's 5 Yuffies in games right now, but I think three of those are actually one mun. Not that it's a bad thing or anything! Just makes the numbers a little skewed.

Yeah, I don't think I could do him justice unless I dropped a game, which isn't in the cards right now. Damn you, social characters! Little wonder Cloud and Sephiroth are popular.

There's repeats with the Aeriths too, at least (Luceti and OPN are both gardeningaia). Not sure if there's multiples of Cloud but it wouldn't surprise me.

Yeah, there are repeats of Aerith, and I think Sephiroth. Not sure about Cloud, though. From what I could see on the Taken Lists it seems like several different people.

I'd think Cloud would be the hardest to throw in a game setting, unless it involves some Big Bad, then I can see him stepping in and helping with that. Otherwise I could see him just being like "...can I go home now :|" in general heh.

I always figured there would be more Tifas! Where have all the Tifas gone :(

I see it the other way around. Cloud is more difficult to get out there, but that also makes him easier to maintain because you don't feel like you have to tag everything. He'll suffer if he's the fringe character in a game with a fairly demanding AC, but if you have fun dabbling with him in random encounters and the game isn't stressful about AC, you can breeze with him floating along in his little "I am Mr. Apathetic, really (really :|)" corner.

Tifa on the other hand has always seemed to lag a bit in playing popularity (compare her to the top three: she's more "normal") and as a Cloud player I've seen a lot in a past where Tifa players get nervous about approaching Clouds they don't know, which might put them off games. Still, she's not far behind!

Ahhh okay, what you're saying makes a lot of sense. This is probably why I don't RP Cloud, he's so complex and I could never get a handle on him. I couldn't take on that challenge like so many have bravely done. And everyone's done a pretty bang up job on Cloud for a while now!

I can definitely see the nerves coming in to play with Tifa. I'd probably be nervous, too.

Now we just need some Barrets up in everyone's business!

I can vouch for the Tifa player nerves. Less than a month after starting playing her over on LJ there was a mess in a game I wasn't in where a Cloud had been actively pursuing a Tifa and then dropped her the second a Zack apped into the game. I got invited to musebox a pairing by a Cloud myself once who then turned out to be an Aerith/Cloud shipper only and had apparently invited me so that they could prove the point of how incompatible any other pairing was, I guess? And there was always the fear of coming off as only writing Tifa because you wanted to ship her with Cloud. Memes weren't quite as big then either (lol - I sound like a 'you kids!' and it was probably only a year or so ago) and so it was hard to test drive characters together. I remember I was always a little nervous approaching Clouds even on dear_mun because you were always a little unsure what your welcome would be. I resorted to always checking their icons before I'd even tag them. I'm sure Aeriths had the same kinds of problems. You didn't want to seem like you were only angling for the shipping, you didn't want to accidentally get dragged into someone's private ship war, you didn't want to have to struggle through keeping Tifa IC while the Cloud was treating her OOC... it was a bit of hassle sometimes. I ended up with a beautiful Cloud that I got to play out the friendship part of the relationship with thanks to some carefully worded PMs at the start and I had a blast. But I can see how there might still be nerves. I don't really see it now the way it was when I was playing her on LJ though? I like what I see in FFVII RP now so much better, both toward the end on LJ and here on DW. Everyone seems like they're just interested in having fun together.

I also agree with the 'normal'. I used to worry that my playing was coming across as boring sometimes with her because there wasn't a lot of yelling, flailing, scowling or other more punchy and 'interesting' reactions coming from her.

As an Aerith player, I've run into those problems, too. I'm actually very careful about having any shippy-type icons so people don't think I'm poking at them for shipping purposes. I just want her to tease her friends a bit!

Yeah, Aeriths had that kind of issue come up too. There were playing squabbles and RPS submissions talking about Aeriths being batshit about shipping. Which, to be fair, some were, but then again about every FF7 character has had at least one batshit player behind them. In a lot of cases, many. I keep typing batshit as bathsit. But the fandom does seem a lot calmer about it now, probably because we're a little smaller now, probably because hardcore shippers either got their fix and mellowed out or burned out of the fandom from drama. I'm hopeful that if there's less drama, you and other Tifa players won't have anything to worry about.

...also I kind of want to guess the game with the Cloud Tifa and Zack, but that's probably happened more than once. Did the game start with an S and it's still around?

just going to chime in here as a Tifa player to say that I remember some of the bathsit stuff. I don't think any character got away unscathed. I do agree though, things are so much more chill and relaxed these days. I don't worry about tagging a new canonmate in a meme or chatting it up with someone new. It's nice and even if we're not perfect it's the kind of not perfect I can handle easily and enjoy playing in. So many friendly and fun and GOOD players here. Makes me look forward to getting my rp on every day. So my advice, whether it's to someone nervous about playing Tifa or any other character, is to not be shy. Give it a shot and have fun.

I'd just like to add that I'm a Cloud player and while I do prefer Cloud/Aerith the most out of all the pairings, I don't play him to ship him off though and would love to play him off against anyone.

That said, are there any Reno/Yuffie shippers?

laughing. This reminds me of that memory card game you played as a kid where all the tiles were face down on the table/floor and you could only pick up two your turn. The trick was to remember where everything was when you couldn't see it so that you could make matching pairs on your turn. I used to love that game.

I'm pleasantly surprised by all the variety, though also puzzled by the number of Sephiroths. I wouldn't have thought he was the most game-friendly but apparently he gets around.

I was really pleased to see the variety! I like seeing Turks and Rufus out there, too. I think maybe the reason for the Sephiroth explosion is tied to people playing him pre-Nibelheim. I guess he's a little easier to play in game settings from that period.

I'd like to see some Cazy!Sephiroth around, though.

It's okay, anon. I was floored by the fact you got the list together at all much less so quickly. Not going to razz you over Cid. He probably slipped away to sneak a tea break while you were counting anyway. ;)

Crazyroth would be fun in game but I can see him having a very limited lifespan in most of them. He never was very subtle about things. I'd choke on my drink though if he showed up randomly in memes to play havoc.

That would actually be really awesome. I know it's fun to see the villiany types actually be villiany without being in a game setting. Like there's a Hojo running around in some memes and it's great!

I saw a Hojo at edge_of_sanctuary talking to a Mini!Cloud and it made me want to scream and snatch the poor unsuspecting chocobo away from him.

Which means it was really well done and a lot of fun to read.

I think that's the same Hojo I've seen around! I saw that thread too, and internally I was like NOO CLOUD DO NOT TRUST HIM OR HIS LABCOAT.

What would be great is if they ran into someone from a later canon point for them both. Someone that could throw Mini!Cloud over their shoulder and run away.

I think that would be a Zack thing. Though the imagine of it being Barret tossing an absolutely deer-in-the-headlights Mini!Cloud over his shoulder instead and taking off gave me a giggle fit.
