I can vouch for the Tifa player nerves. Less than a month after starting playing her over on LJ there was a mess in a game I wasn't in where a Cloud had been actively pursuing a Tifa and then dropped her the second a Zack apped into the game. I got invited to musebox a pairing by a Cloud myself once who then turned out to be an Aerith/Cloud shipper only and had apparently invited me so that they could prove the point of how incompatible any other pairing was, I guess? And there was always the fear of coming off as only writing Tifa because you wanted to ship her with Cloud. Memes weren't quite as big then either (lol - I sound like a 'you kids!' and it was probably only a year or so ago) and so it was hard to test drive characters together. I remember I was always a little nervous approaching Clouds even on dear_mun because you were always a little unsure what your welcome would be. I resorted to always checking their icons before I'd even tag them. I'm sure Aeriths had the same kinds of problems. You didn't want to seem like you were only angling for the shipping, you didn't want to accidentally get dragged into someone's private ship war, you didn't want to have to struggle through keeping Tifa IC while the Cloud was treating her OOC... it was a bit of hassle sometimes. I ended up with a beautiful Cloud that I got to play out the friendship part of the relationship with thanks to some carefully worded PMs at the start and I had a blast. But I can see how there might still be nerves. I don't really see it now the way it was when I was playing her on LJ though? I like what I see in FFVII RP now so much better, both toward the end on LJ and here on DW. Everyone seems like they're just interested in having fun together.

I also agree with the 'normal'. I used to worry that my playing was coming across as boring sometimes with her because there wasn't a lot of yelling, flailing, scowling or other more punchy and 'interesting' reactions coming from her.

As an Aerith player, I've run into those problems, too. I'm actually very careful about having any shippy-type icons so people don't think I'm poking at them for shipping purposes. I just want her to tease her friends a bit!

<3! It's the friendship part that makes it all so fun. I used to love having my Tifa just be able to mentally cuddle her friends and take care of them in what she thought was a sneaky way. It made her so much fun to play.

It's one of my favorite things about playing with castmates - the friendship! Aerith giving Cloud a hard time or just hanging out with Tifa in any scenario or dragging Cid out to a dance floor (lol a thread I had a long time ago) are always fun to play!

I would love to read Cid getting dragged out onto the dance floor! I bet the air turned blue from all the cursing and Aerith must have loved every second of it!

Yeah, Aeriths had that kind of issue come up too. There were playing squabbles and RPS submissions talking about Aeriths being batshit about shipping. Which, to be fair, some were, but then again about every FF7 character has had at least one batshit player behind them. In a lot of cases, many. ~~I keep typing batshit as bathsit.~~ But the fandom does seem a lot calmer about it now, probably because we're a little smaller now, probably because hardcore shippers either got their fix and mellowed out or burned out of the fandom from drama. I'm hopeful that if there's less drama, you and other Tifa players won't have anything to worry about.

...also I kind of want to guess the game with the Cloud Tifa and Zack, but that's probably happened more than once. Did the game start with an S and it's still around?

It's true that FFVII has got its share of batshit fans and it doesn't take too much searching to find them. I think you're right about the RP base being a lot smaller now and that helping. Everything seems much simpler and more straight forward when I look at it now. There also hasn't been new material released beyond Dissidia for a while so that probably helps. But I think the fact that the fandom got to the point where they called the really egregious ones out on their behavior might have helped too. I saw it happen a couple times and it was done so politely but firmly that it really made me feel good about the fandom as a whole. I know when I read memes or games with cast in them now it seems like the environment is a lot happier and healthier for everyone and it certainly seems like it here on rpanons too.

I wish I remembered the game, or the RPer, but I was just getting into RP at the time. I remember there were RPsecrets about it because that's where I heard about it. I back stalked to read it and it was certainly an eye opening introduction to things at the time.

That's a good point too. I'm sure with new materials the VII fans are older as a group and, god willing, more mature. Even if we are still massive dorks. So there's probably better behavior when something does seem off to work things out without exploding everything in drama that we're all sick of anyway.

I've known Clouds to have trouble with one of the girls having a player who wants shipping but isn't straightforward about it. I know most players don't do this but some will really say they don't mind shipping, before you're in a game together. Then you are and they keep referring to them as a couple.

No. Don't do that. It just makes it harder to tell who's being honest when they say they don't mind and who's going "OH once I'm in I'll get you to change your mind :3c"

In reference to the RP base being smaller now:

It is on here, but on tumblr hoooo boy. There seems to be quite a few FFVII players on there (actually, FF in general), and I've taken a glance at some of their posts. Tumblr RP just looks like a huge mess to me anyway, but there's still plenty of shipping wars and bickering going on.

Or Final Fantasy ~confession~ secrets. When I look through the FF tag sometimes I just have to roll my eyes and close the window. There's still a lot of rage out there it seems O_o

Tumblr is ridiculous. But yeah, seems like the whole love triangle thing never quite dies.

just going to chime in here as a Tifa player to say that I remember some of the bathsit stuff. I don't think any character got away unscathed. I do agree though, things are so much more chill and relaxed these days. I don't worry about tagging a new canonmate in a meme or chatting it up with someone new. It's nice and even if we're not perfect it's the kind of not perfect I can handle easily and enjoy playing in. So many friendly and fun and GOOD players here. Makes me look forward to getting my rp on every day. So my advice, whether it's to someone nervous about playing Tifa or any other character, is to not be shy. Give it a shot and have fun.

I'd just like to add that I'm a Cloud player and while I do prefer Cloud/Aerith the most out of all the pairings, I don't play him to ship him off though and would love to play him off against anyone.

That said, are there any Reno/Yuffie shippers?
