Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

I'd love to see a character goals section on apps myself. Obviously what is written wouldn't be set in stone, it would be more to see that the player bothered to read the FAQ and consider stuff their character could do in the setting beyond their intro, which people commonly don't do, especially with impulse apps.

+1 to both of these. I like being able to see where other players are going with their characters, too, so I'd be curious. I'm not sure about dissuading impulse apps--everyone does them from time to time, and DWRP is so full of people taking care and staying wary these days that sometimes you need some of that bloat to get a game off the ground and running. Still, it might persuade some would-be-flakers to consider where they're going with their characters, and might make it more enjoyable to stick around and follow through on their vague goals?

I'm not saying that it would dissuade impulse apps entirely, but it would force those people to consider actual fit into the setting rather than oh hey, my friend is apping in and I want to play with them or oh hey new shiny canon and my character isn't taken there.

I also think it's especially a good thing for those characters who don't obviously fit into a setting and villain characters. But the major thing is for it to show that the player did indeed read the FAQ and has some clue of where to go with the character. Seriously, how often do we get players not reading the FAQ and then getting upset over what the game's setting is? At least something like this benefits the player unlike those secret word in the FAQ questions that used to exist to show the player read it.

the fact that 'what's written isn't set in stone' negates the actual concept of character goals. anyone can pull anything out of their ass for a 'goal' if that's all that's needed. the quality of what an appropriate goal is would be pathetic at best, and it still wouldn't dissuade from people apping inappropriate chars, or not having a clue what they're doing.

not to mention, so what about impulse apps. the games i've stayed in the longest (2+ years) were because of impulsively apping into them. not everyone's a shiny flake.
