rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

a tangent, but it was the first thing that popped into my head so i have to ask:

if sailor moon came out today (for the first time, not crystal), would it be as fondly regarded or would we all kind of think of it as a neckbeardy thing like precure is?

it would just be called a copycat and dismissed as a generic cookie cutter magical girl series, i think. i don't think people would see it as bad so much as mediocre.

but would we even have the tropes we now think of as generic if sailor moon wouldn't have come first?

i guess you could swap out sm for dbz if you wanted to do shounen.

if we're assuming it kept the same art style? probably not. the lengthened bodies are kind of counter to the shorter style of body types more common in moeshit.

that being said, precure isn't a neckbeardy thing anymore than MLP is made for bronies. it's still a kid's show.

i didn't mean to imply that precure's actually meant for neckbeards, just that in fandom and especially dwrp, it's regarded as a neckbeard-ish fandom.
