rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

it happens. learning from it is all you can do. i mean, i saw a newscaster use the word 'gypped' and not know that it was also a derogatory term. i used 'coon's age' up until i was 18 and got told by a friend what it meant. some are a little more dependent upon location than others. bonus for you is that you aren't being a defensive jackass about it and 'no no' like i've seen someone else do who used it on one of the anon comms.

there was actually huge wank about this on here once. i've never heard "chimping out" anywhere except on anoncomm so i thought it was someone making it up or something the first time i saw it.

i think it's definitely culture and location. i've heard terms that others haven't and i've been like 'yo, bro, you can't say that' and they haven't had a clue that it was a slur. i don't expect anyone to be up to snuff on all the derogatory terms that are out there because holy shit, there's a lot, but at least this anon was open to hearing it was a slur and deciding not to continue using it, unlike that other incident where people tried to argue it wasn't an insult when it was.

btw, i'm totally fuguing on that word that means area specific, like pop being used in some parts of the country and soda in others, and coke in others still. whatever the word, that's what i mean. because up here in my part of the world, there's a slur term for native that i found people didn't know about when i moved to a larger city, but anyone who was from the smaller place or around there knew exactly what it was.
