Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

i'm really starting to hate the word homophobic. 'not gay' =/= homophobic. not being into gay things =/= homophobic. not wanting to watch gay things =/= homophobic. you don't have to 'give gay a chance' and not wanting to doesn't make you a fucking homophobe. i'm bi and i don't always want the gay to happen. putting on gay porn and having someone who's straight get up and leave or not watch it or ask to change the channel doesn't make them a homophobe. and not shipping something gay doesn't make someone homophobic either. just like het ships that are crammed together because they're both pretty or fucked up, some gay ships are awkward and hamhanded. not liking them doesn't make someone homophobic. not unless they're using derogatory slurs and hating on them because of the gay. that's what homophobia is, and even then, i dislike the term because no one's phobic of it. they're just bigoted or prejudiced. no one's fucking latinaphobic. they're racist. as a gay person, i despise the fact that one term is used to cover so much bullshit, and most of it's wrong.

sorry, that got tldr, but it really bugs me.

i feel this way about trans stuff.

i hate trans headcanons pushed onto fictional characters for reasons. if i say this i am branded a transphobe. in reality it's just the artist/writer/their fans trying to "win" an "argument" but it still hurts a lot, considering i have dysphoria myself.

it's not worth trying to fight over. nobody will respect your point of view in the tumblr age.

i agree 100%. i am trans, and i hate a lot of trans headcanons because...like... i don't want to be trans? i'd be a cis person of my gender if i could. needing to imagine a character going through all the same shit i do is really just very uncomfortable and anxiety-inducing for me. it's like a bad reminder being thrown in my face. it makes me less able to just kick back and enjoy something because now it's got all these nasty feelings and reminders tacked onto it.

i'm convinced a lot of people who come up with trans headcanons are so far removed from what being trans is actually like that they don't consider how pushing that stuff onto a character could negatively affect the people who see it.

arguing semantics is bullshit, come on anon. the root word for "-phobia" can also mean to have a dread or aversion towards something, not necessarily a fear.

and honestly, i'd argue that a lot of racism comes from a fear of people who are different.

trying to argue the word away does nothing but redirect the conversation in a pointless direction. hell, if you wanna argue semantics, then why do we use the word racist the way we do, when a word like artist or linguist carries no negative connotations? see how stupid of an argument that is?

also back to your original point: there's a big fucking difference between someone who doesn't want to watch gay porn and someone who goes "ew gross" when they see two men kiss.

that's nice, but they didn't mention people going "oh gross", so what's your point?

you skipped over their entire point to nitpick the semantics in one sentence

you are worthless and you have contributed nothing to this conversation

yeah, well, that's what xenophobia covers. and it's a word that means things. people that spout hateful things because their skygod says being gay is wrong when nowhere in the bible does it say that are not homophobic. they're ignorant, bigoted fucks. that was also not the point of the comment. homophobic is a word that should mean a thing, and what it means as it stands are hateful, intentional things. lack of interest doesn't make someone homophobic. not being gay doesn't make them homophobic, yet i have seen people try to make the argument that not giving someone who's gay a chance makes them homophobic. not straight. not having different tastes or preferences. nope. it's homophobic.

because people are entitled fucks and it's all about me me give me mine, not 'hey, that person might not like what i'm offering for a variety of reasons, one of those being they're not interested in dick like i am.' i'm tired of homophobe/homophobic being used by gay people to excuse shitty behavior. certain gay people, mind you. lots of gay people don't try to call someone out for not liking a thing they're not wired to like. but you get those assholes of every group...
