Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

I speak Japanese. I learned it basically to play videogames, but back before I learned it bad dubs were a big pet peeve of mine so I feel for people who want dual audio now.

I don't. If they want Japanese audio so bad, they can learn Japanese and import the games. Dual audio isn't going to be a regular thing until the Japanese see that there is a market outside of Japan that would be stupid to ignore. We didn't even start getting decent dubs until companies in the US saw there was an actual market for anime and JRPGs. So these whiners are only stabbing themselves in the foot by not supporting what we are getting because that just tells these companies that a market doesn't exist for that sort of game and we get less localizations.

Seriously, things have come a long way since the 90s when we got anime with cut scenes, changed dialog, dubs with monotone voices and subs costing more to buy (assuming you even could) than dubs. At least with games, you nearly always have the option to turn the voices off and read the text instead. You couldn't do that with a bad dub in the 90s when it was on a VHS tape. On the gaming side we've come a long way since we don't get shitty translations, different versions of the game, the game itself being renamed or its number in the series being changed to hide the fact that we didn't get some of the games and so on. We also get a lot more of the games than we used to. All of this happened because we showed these companies that a market exists for this stuff.

Bamco is now giving everything English-subtitled "Asian releases" now for the Hong Kong/Taiwan/Singapore area so congrats fellow weebs, Japan is learning

Super Robot Wars in English ayyyyyyyy

The market is completely different now than in the 90s though. This is a generation raised on Crunchyroll. People have gotten used to the idea of subtitles, and worse/better, they've gotten a taste for seiyuu culture. And Persona 5, in particular, with one of those most stacked voice actor casts in any video game ever? People being buttmad is totally expected.
