Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

no matter how many times i try, this literally does not work.

i can save the image just fine, but when i try to open the file on my computer, the file is corrupt. this happens every single time. right clicking, saving the whole webpage as an html file, OR dragging it to my desktop. none of these work.

Strange. I tried it for myself just now with a random anime icon and it's saving just fine. Have you tried rebooting your computer, or is this a thing that's been going on for a really long time now?

(Anonymous) 2016-06-21 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
been going on for months, which is why i haven't tried icon collecting at all

(Anonymous) 2016-06-21 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Can you ask a friend to gather up all the icons for you? They could zip them and upload the zip file somewhere.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-21 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
i'm annoyed enough to consider doing that. wouldn't want to subject a friend to that but i suppose i could think of a way or two to make it easier on them.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-21 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
you could always make your own. a free account only lets you have 15 icons anyway. it doesn't take that long to crop 15 images and get them down to 100x100 unless you're prettying them up.

this has been my solution for years actually! just thought it would be nice to look around in case i wanted to upgrade my account

ongoing problem. i can download fine on my phone, but when on my computer, right click save only yields corrupt files. i use chrome on my phone, firefox on my computer, so it looks like it may be a firefox problem? haven't tried chrome on my comp yet.

It does appear to be a Firefox problem since some anons report it works fine in Chrome and IE.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-21 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
are you using firefox

it has documented problems with photobucket

(Anonymous) 2016-06-21 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
firefox is just going out of its way to make itself frustrating these days

and i say this as someone who loves firefox

(Anonymous) 2016-06-21 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, it's probably Photobucket's fault. Not all web designers test their code in every web browser so sometimes you'll get a site that doesn't work in one browser, but works great in another. Some sites also only work in one particular browser For example, my old workplace's site and VPN only worked in IE, every other browser would fail to establish a connection or load a blank page. That wasn't a fault on Firefox's side, that was a fault of the people who programmed the site.

i happen to be a trained web designer lmao and i absolutely detest any site that won't test its features in multiple browsers. further googling of this issue has resulted in the conclusion that photobucket does not care about firefox or their engineers didn't take a course in basic web design since cross-browser compatibility is essential

makes me hate photobucket more which doesn't help the situation any since it isn't the icon makers' fault for uploading there. sigh

at least i figured out a solution though which is what i came here for

Workplace sites for employees I will give some leeway to because most work computers will only have IE installed and for work from home employees who need to access stuff on a personal computer, they'll have been advised about what they need to use.

Though for anything else, yes they should at least test in the big three browsers: Firefox, Chrome and IE. Most users will have one or more of those so that will cover the majority of potential users across multiple operating systems.

yeah, i honestly don't like giving that leeway but i will anyway.

i always personally always thoroughly test every design i create in chrome, firefox, ie, and safari, at the very least. idk, maybe i was taught right, or photobucket just made a prototype live. ...several years ago according to google search results of firefox-exclusive browser issues related to photobucket.

yes. are you saying these problems don't exist with chrome? i can use it just for icon collecting i guess.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-21 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
i haven't had any problems with chrome.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-21 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
yes

(Anonymous) 2016-06-22 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
i had this exact same problem for ages when i used firefox and ended up having chrome on my computer just for icon downloading. it's definitely a well known problem.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-21 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually had that problem. Try another browser if you can. I got it to work okay when I swapped to IE but it wouldn't save right in Firefox at all.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-21 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
what browser are you using? i've found that sometimes, i can't save icons of any format properly from firefox anymore (or any affiliated browsers), so i have to load the page in chrome and try from there.
