rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

some questions for you guys in the light of the news going around:

say you found the perfect pb for a character. oc or obscure or book or whatever. you think theyre a perfect fit for who you have in mind and to play badly.

problem is you learn the actor/actress is dead after looking them up to see what else theyve done. their death could be recent or they could have passed away for a long time ago. could have been a natural passing or been an accident or speculated to be something else.

do you use them as a pb still? do you wait for some time if they died recently? do you not use them at all if their death wasnt natural/accident?

id wait a while if the death was very recent, yeah.

and i dunno on the second point. if they were violently murdered or something similar i might pick a different pb but i wouldn't JUDGE people using the pb. it'd just be a personal choice.

I wouldn't judge anyone using them as a pb because I barely ever check when people have made their accounts or anything like that, but I'd feel a little sketchy about using them myself if they'd just died.

if it's not a super recent death, who gives a fuck?
i'd only pause if it were a brutal murder or suicide or something that's big in the public conscious.

if you're talking about the stark trek dude, i could see it being bad taste to make an oc based on them right now, just because they'd died, but no, i don't see it being a problem. i don't always keep on top of who's alive/dead, and someone might die sometimes after i pick them up (heath ledger/paul walker/brittney murphy), the younger ones that you don't expect to go anytime soon. if someone made an oc with any of those three, i wouldn't find it offensive or gross. the cause of death doesn't really come into play unless you're stupid and use it in their worldbuilding. outside of that, who cares?

using someone as a pb =/= creating a character based off of them

what the other anon said. i didn't mean making an rpf. i meant using them as an oc pb. making any oc at the moment with him would just be bad taste, but give it a few months or a year and no one's going to be so quick to give you a dirty look. and tbh, i know that if i was looking for a pb i wanted and came across someone that recently died, i'd be sad and not want a constant reminder that that person was no long here. not that soon, anyway.

if their death was high-profile (e.g. heath ledger) or less than a year ago, i don't use them. manner of death doesn't really matter as much as the public's reaction to it and how famous they were before.

yes, i still use them. no, i wouldn't wait because it doesn't matter imo.

it sucks that they died (and i'm very unlikely to know anything about the people i use for pbs anyway), but that has nothing to do with playing internet barbies.

we don't celeb rp, they're actors. you're using images of them probably in a role. it's no different than playing a character they played in a film or show.

do you suddenly stop rping characters from movies they've played too...?

i mean i guess some people would, but i've never seen a person do that, and i've also never seen someone give another player the stinkeye for not dropping a character whose actor died.

i probably would, actually, but that's just me. i'd feel weird and uncomfortable and sad about playing them.
