Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

He could see his charge's dreams as they played out, from wars long ago in far-away lands, to the work of an abolitionist right there in Rhy'Din. He saw the memories of betrayals, far too many to count. Disturbingly, he recognised some of the faces in these dreams and, for once, was glad that the Multiverse existed the way it did. His own six were untainted by acts of betrayal. Untainted by untempered lust, untainted by greed.

it's amazing how butthurt she still is over the blue power ranger having a girlfriend

main admin, client communications, and marketing and firm development person at a law office

it's pretty tolerable, is how i'd describe it. i don't love my job, but i'm pretty good at it, i like my coworkers, and i know my boss really appreciates my contributions, so i'm content to stay. downsides are that i'm doing about 3.5 peoples' jobs right now and get spread too thin, so i've been working a lot of overtime (that i'm not paid for), anything i do is constantly interrupted, and my boss is the least efficient human being on the planet.

I work in a university in student services. I basically have to know everything about the university's procedures, policies and support networks and find answers to any and all questions students and staff bring to me.

On the one hand, I really love this job because I love higher education and I'm very good at what I'm doing here, and on the other I really dislike all the bureaucracy. Overall though, I find I love my job more often than I hate it.

30, and I've had 3 long-term jobs, and 2 that lasted under a month each when I was finding my feet as a teenager.

33 and I've had at least 14 jobs that I can recall. I've been working since I was 17, and there were a few times I had two jobs at once. I don't think I've been at one longer than 3 years though. 2 years is usually where I start hating every little thing about it and start looking for a new one.

i would give anything to quit and do something, literally anything else, but it's not financially feasible for me. i hate everything about this career and what it does to me but if i left it i would lose financial stability. i don't have other education or experience to fall back on. it sucks ass

it's not one more app period ever, it's more like not having an app period in september and apps opening again sometime after that. that's still a long time, but people who are interested after that will still have chances.

Sales manager in a call center. The company actually treats its employees very well and some of the upper managers are pretty great people so we don't have as much of the morale problem as other call center jobs but there's still a lot of stress and bs that comes with it. Pay and benefits-wise it allows me to live comfortable and securely. For the most part the good outweighs the bad.

So any of the other unemployed anons that I know exist here find all the job talk depressing?

I know my current job hunt has made me really start to wonder if any employer out there really wants me. I keep getting the "we've decided to pursue another candidate" or ignored entirely. Plus since I have to renew my lease next month and that requires proof of employment, I don't even know what in the heck to do anymore since I've had no luck finding a place willing to hire me, and I've seriously applied to everything I qualify for.

So jobless anons, feel free to vent about how shitty, depressing and demeaning job searching can be.

full-time writer. love it, it was my dream job. everyone told me not to do it, that i wouldn't make enough to live on. i really think they were just trying to discourage me for personal reasons, because i've never even dreamt of the amount of money i have now.

+1

It's not as speculative, since it's taken from the marketing survey blurb: "players will lead the fight for a new home in hostile territory - where WE are the aliens - opposed by a deadly indigenous race bent on stopping us." It's a worry born from the knowledge of how tone-deaf AAA marine shooting games tend to be in general towards these kinds of issues.

I'm happy to wait for more information and it would be fantastic if my worries were disproven. But if the question is, "what do you feel about Andromeda right now, based on the current information?", well those doubts are there.

Had an office job. Hated it.

Switched to indie dev (web, apps, games, I do whatever). Love it. I set my own hours, don't have to spend a good 2 hours of my day bussing to work, and I live right next to my town's waterpark/amusement park and have a year's pass (which is hella cheap for locals because most of the money is from tourists). I go to the park in the morning for a few hours when it's not busy and then come back and do my work, pretty much.

nothing about dal's post is tactful. I can't imagine talking like that to another player, let alone the mods of the game I'm playing in.

I applied for an opening within a branch of the US military. It's the kind of position where you have to secure the position before you enlist in order to get it, which you did by submitting your resume, a portfolio demonstrating your ability in this particular field, etc. It matched by qualifications and interests to a T, and the prospect of having my student loans forgiven, the various other military benefits, and the fact that it was permanently stationed in the States gave me a lot of hope. The only problem was that the application deadline was within only a couple of weeks of the posting being opened, and I was busy with school projects at the time.

I stayed up for several days putting together a strong portfolio that was really diverse and showed off all of the skills that the position asked for. I managed to fulfill all of the requirements and even went to the Writing Center at my school abd some friends who had been in the military to look over my application materials, and they said it was all very well-done.

No longer than a week after the deadline, I was informed that they'd selected their candidate, and it was somebody else. Apparently, according to someone on the inside who asked about it for me, they knew who they wanted to have the job before they even posted it (they were legally obligated to post the opening as available anyway). The application process was a formality for that person.

no one knows when after that. that's the problem. people are less likely to waste their chances on an unknown.

I'm a research assistant (as part of a grad program but it get a salary and tuition benefits in exchange for doing the job)

I've been a research assistant for various labs and projects for about 6 years now and I really like it, but I much preferred the 8 months I spent as a legislative assistant for a nonprofit. I needed more schooling to get a permenant position so here I am back again. Both of these jobs appeal to me because learning is inherently part of the job.
