Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

As a former officer I cannot strongly enough recommend you stay out of police work, unless you like working for shitstains and scumbags who are corrupt and more often than not racist af.

8, with the last four being two to three at a time (combinations of part time and effectively seasonal work from home)

high paying retail. i guess it like it. i wouldn't like any job because of course i'd rather be doing shit i want to do instead of being expected to do specific tasks on a schedule, but it's fine. i don't dread clocking in and i make enough to keep myself comfortable and entertained. that's all i really want

i currently work for law enforcement as well and i am echoing that you should not do this unless you are an extremely resilient person

the ugliness you will wind up being exposed to, all the hurt and pain and awfulness of the human condition day after day after day, is psychologically damaging to even the strongest people

Little Hades, surprisingly.

I mean, everyone's playing asshole villains and even if they can't, you know, die again, I don't see why murdering people would be a big deal. You come back. You're still in Hell.

idk, I'd be down for someone trying to murder my character there.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-23 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
is that why you're former

Worse when they try for a cutesy lisp they didn't have in canon.

I was in T9's chat with them once and they went on a long rant about how people 'faked' being blind by pulling stunts like "They can sense auras" and "They use echolocation to get around" and claiming that Renne was a superior character for being TRULY blind.

I've had 6 jobs if you count my internship. My current job is my first salaried position.

as a person in low paying retail, this sounds pretty good tbh.

I was thinking of going into it ten years ago and decided against it in part because of that exact reason. But I feel like I'm at a place in my life where I could handle that, and I want to believe I could do more for people as an officer than as a massage therapist.

24, and I've worked 8 jobs.

5 of them were while I was in college, and 2 of those five were through the school doing work related to my major for a semester each. Not quite an internship and I did get paid for them, but they took on different students each semester so there wasn't a possibility of making them long term.

During my college years I usually worked 2 of the jobs at once. First semester of my senior year I worked three (my main two plus my major-related job), second semester I worked four (the two, the other major-related job, and a seasonal position). That was a really busy year but it was necessary because I was saving up to move after graduation in addition to paying my tuition.

I've had three jobs since I graduated and moved: one summer job that I worked while looking for other employment, one long-term stint in food service, and I finally got my first fulltime position recently with benefits and everything! I love my current field of work and there seems to be plenty of opportunities for advancement, so I feel really fortunate that things worked out this well.

What's more important than the amount of information is how you present it. To use an example from a video game I played a while ago, the characters would frequently just awkwardly randomly stop and spew information at each other like they're tour guides: talking about how significant this flower is to the culture of a town or what this guy does at his job or to say that the train departs every 30 minutes when none of these things are relevant to their conversations or the plot. To other characters who already know all this information. They stopped just short of just turning towards the camera to talk directly to the player. Not only was this useless information no one needed, it was just plain bad writing where the writers just wanted to show off all their ~deep lore~.

There really isn't a such thing as too much world building, in my opinion, but you shouldn't just throw it at people going "look, look how much thought I put into why the country's imperial army wears poofy hats!" Weave in for people to find, but don't just outright tell them that this is your world building. Show it off in your settings and the way people act and react to things. If you do any infodumps, make sure that it is relevant to the characters present and that it's information your audience/players (if we're talking about RP) can use.

i wonder if these idiot youtubers who milk views by hurting themselves on screen realize how much i, as someone with a torture fetish, get off on their suffering

i also wonder how big of a portion people looking for fetish fuel make up their overall viewer base. i have a hard time believing most people find this sort of juvenile masochism shit legitimately funny. i want to think they're either getting off on watching it, or they have a really bad case of schadenfreude

I work in a factory. It's not bad. Pays better than retail (which is the only other type of job I've had) that's for damn sure.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-23 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
what do you do at the factory

thread op

(Anonymous) 2016-06-23 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I was actually totally unaware of that.

I was going to wait and see but yeah, that makes things pretty tough.
