Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

avast and avg are both excellent FREE virus programs. get one, anon. if your memory is low, go for avg, as avast uses more resources in my experience.

Way to be snippy, anon. I wasn't making any demands, I was offering polite suggestions to a mod who asked for them. Go froth at the people trying to prod the mod into changing the consent rule instead.

Not every game has to cater to every player, but the mod asked for input and I gave suggestions about how to be a little less niche and be able to compete with a huge established game. The mod is free to take them or leave them.

really liking how trying to offer suggestions equals demands. if a mod's posting in here, you'd think they're asking for help roughing out the edges, not a unanimous buttpat.

assuming you're on a legit windows 7/8/10 installation, don't get either of these. the free Microsoft Security Essentials or Windows Defender that comes with the operating system is more than good enough and much, much less of a resource hog.

Shin Megami Tensei game - plot/survival/adventure

(Anonymous) 2016-06-19 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
This is a project I'm already working on, but I thought I'd run it by the anoncomm to see how it flies.

It would be a stand-alone RP using the demons and mechanics from the SMT games (mostly from the ones under the numbered Shin Megami Tensei title rather than Persona). Anyone would be able to enjoy it, whether they're a fan of any of the games/series in the franchise or not.

Emphasis would be put on recruiting, raising, and fusing demons but characters could still choose not to participate in that. Choosing not to have a character gain any levels earns them a certain amount of default protection from demons that they lose should they decide to gain strength on their own. A character can raise demons without raising their own level. Character levels and the ability to make contracts with higher level demons are earned by passing activity, with level growth for individual demons earned through extra activity so that it's possible for someone to raise any demon they want to max level and have it still be useful (unlike in many of the games). Participating in plot events can also result in level bonuses.

Demons would be earned through capture, fusion, and from special events. New demons and/or areas for the characters to explore will be revealed on a monthly basis. Characters and demons can know only a limited number of skills at any one time, and each character is also limited in how many demons they can call upon. However, once someone has made a pact with a demon they can recall a stored image of them from their demonic compendium at their default level. There will also be a shrine system where characters can turn in a leveled demon once a week for a reward.

It will require a lot of note keeping, but anyone who enjoys playing SMT games is probably used to that anyway. In the end, I think it could be a very enjoyable experience.

The setting is a deserted city in a post-apocalyptic world (as many SMT games make use of) and the plot will involve discovering where they are, who or what brought them there, and for what purpose.

Thoughts?

It doesn't look hastily done to me. It looks like something they've been planning since last year that would have worked with smaller teams, but the game is too big for it now.

No, but unfortunately for you, courtly love basically became a meme used to refer to memes that pretty much never get used.

The real scourge of bakerstreet now is all the variations of the bodyguard meme.

I laughed when it poked fun at itself ("I can't believe what I just went through.", "Man, who even cares anymore?", so on). Definite waste, though.

If anything it feels like there was too MUCH planning and now they dont know how to be flexible and are trying to fit the playerbase to the event rather than the event to the playerbase.

i'm so glad i'm not the only one that's noticed that. bodyguard variations, first time/only time, come back to me/you're my rock, just... agh. and i really wish they'd just post the oral fixation meme instead of the cunnilingus or blowjob. it looks samey to post one or the other after and the oral fixation fits for both.

Re: GAME IDEAS

(Anonymous) 2016-06-19 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
except that anons tend to think that "your ideas are shit, do this instead" is the same thing as "offering suggestions". and then they wonder why they get shot down.

or they offer a suggestion, get told politely that their suggestion won't work for what the person wants to do, and they lose their shit that their suggestion wasn't immediately implemented.

There have been people in this thread that have ignored the intended consent-based premise and gotten pushy when they didn't get what they want, or have been hostile or snide in their tone, but this was an example of good crit that you're are criticizing.

The wording was polite and there was a suggestion that tried to offer alternate sources of conflict without pushing noncon. It was a good example of what some other parts of the thread should've been. The mod themselves seemed to appreciate it and they weren't shy about rejecting suggestions in other places. While I think there are places where anons got too pushy or rude this wasn't one of them, anon.
