Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

ok i have been wondering for awhile now, what does wgar stand for? googling only gives me radio stations (looking for acronym definitions was equally unhelpful, since i'm sure you're not talking about wheat germ agglutinin resistance)

(Anonymous) 2016-07-02 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
it's a misspelling of what

(Anonymous) 2016-07-02 02:54 am (UTC)(link)

(Anonymous) 2016-07-02 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
it's an old meme from lj days

someone went to type what but their fingers were in the wrong place on the keyboard and they typed wgar instead. they didn't notice until they had submitted the comment

Uh, anon, there is no other meaning of peruse.

http://www.dictionary.com/browse/peruse

Are you thinking of per use? Because those should be two words.

fellow translator agreeing with this. the entire point of doing fan translations in the first place is to share the thing with people who don't speak japanese, so there's no reason to complain if someone decides to upload it to a place where it will have an even wider audience.

I think they were referring to browse being more 'lightly looking over' and peruse being 'this letter is backwards.'

yep, they spread it around that the creators of su approved of child porn, or were pedophiles themselves, when "let people draw what they want" had nothing to do with child porn, but about assholes shrieking at an artist who dared to draw a character too thin, or with a nose that was too small.

Re: Superhero Game?

No more settings where people are trapped by some kind of unpleasant overlords or governments and there aren't many positive forces supporting the PCs. There are only three superhero-themed games right now. Maskormenace has a jamjar element but the characters are being used by oppressive Cold War governments, which for some people is a downer and it clashes with what they like about superheroes as a genre. The Calling has a freeform mostly idealistic setting but doesn't have a jamjar element. The Legion has a jamjar setting and positive support structure but is set in the future so you have to like heavy sci fi. What DWRP is missing right now is a jamjar superhero game with a positive support structure set in a modern day more traditional superhero setting.

As an example, I'd love to see a superhero game where a supervillain made all the game world's superheroes disappear and what they did accidentally creates the jamjar that traps and empowers the characters, but the nonpowered support staffs, nonpowered hacker superheroes, and supporting cast members of all the superheroes band together to help the PCs fight back against the bad guys. Give me a game where villains like Thanos or the Anti-monitor fucked everything up but Alfred Pennyworth, Oracle, Edwin Jarvis, Jimmy Olsen, Pepper Potts, and Paco and Brenda from Blue Beetle are running support for the characters getting pulled in and hoping to help them get home someday.

- a system that actively encourages superheroics. One of the problems with Mask or Menace is that for a superhero game, it's remarkably easy to fall into slice of life and not do anything heroey. that's also probably one of the reasons that anons are always excited when someone mentions making a Tiger & Bunny game b/c the structure of the canon is good for helping to push characters that wouldn't normally be superheroes into a superhero position.

- something more open-world than closed environment. banks to rob, buildings to destroy, npc baddies to beat up, something like that.

- I'd prefer light hearted over grim and gritty but that's mostly because I fucking love stupid Gold & Silver Age comics where you get loser villains like Kite Man over things like Killing Joke.

There is nothing about this I wish I didn't read.

The episode was crap, but man it's not that deep.

that was such a fucking disaster. basically they said "hey we can't stop people from drawing things" and a bunch of babies had anxiety attacks. i don't understand how those people can function when they are so sensitive to everything.

AU where characters grew up in the game setting. There aren't enough of those these days and it would be perfect for a superhero AU.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-02 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
actually, peruse means to read thoroughly and carefully. it's used so often to mean skim or browse that it shows up in some dictionaries as a legitimate definition now.

the true irony here is, had you perused the dictionary page you linked, you might have realized that there are two definitions given for the word, and that those definitions are in direct conflict with each other. if you're skimming a page you are not reading closely and are likely to miss something.

I would like to point out one thing.

Like with doujinshi, part of why people ignore it is that doujinshi artists aren't supposed to be getting rich off of it. Same with scanlations.

The sites that steal scanlations use them to make huge profits, without doing any work. That feels a lot worse to some people, like the difference between a fan artist and someone who makes a website posting all of their art without credit. They're taking it a few steps further.
