Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

... none as far as I'm aware?

Someone can't copyright a fandom gif

(Anonymous) 2016-06-26 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
i don't bother with plurk anymore. i don't gush about fandom to the degree these fluffheads do, so there's no point.

Snowblind has a setup like that.

try looking at what you plurk from an outside perspective, anon. are your plurks the sort of plurks you'd go into if you didn't know the other person all that well or were just internet friends?

do you complain a lot? do you criticize other things a lot or rant? a lot of those types of plurks are hard to respond to.

do you have any fandoms in common with your plurk list? most people enjoy talking about fandom and won't ignore fandom plurks as long as there's a conversation point.

like another anon said, are you active in other people's plurks? do you contribute to conversations? there could be any number of reasons you're being ignored. the great thing about social skills is that they can be learned. (in general. not addressing spectrum disorders in this comment.)

look at what people who always get lots of comments do and see if you can incorporate some of it into your own plurk behavior. if none of that helps or applies, then maybe you just have an unfriendly plurk list, although to be honest, that should be the last consideration after all of the above.

I read the major old stuff, haven't gone through all of the filler. In my case, some of the old stuff has actually been retconned out anyway, but even if I play someone who's perfectly playable on new stuff alone, I like having an idea of how things have changed.

As other anon said, though, most comics players (in my experience) are super chill about understanding that especially with a long-running character, it's pretty damned hard to hunt down and read every appearance, and are willing to fill you in if you're missing something relevant to their character.

the barefoot contessa is my favorite cooking show that actually teaches cooking. ina is... kind of boring? but she's really sweet and earnest and SUCH A GOOD COOK. not much comedy in her show, though, and you could just download her cookbooks for your mom instead. (her mashed potatoes are so good omg)

rick and morty is funny and has a unique feel compared to other animated comedies. about a super-genius grandpa and his long-suffering grandson going on interdimensional adventures. ugly art, dirty humor, great show.

BROOKLYN 99 how has no one else rec'd it yet? such a funny show, great cast of characters, and isn't ~dark and gritty~ like every other cop show. strong cast, with all the characters getting a fair amount of screen time. there's no bullshit love triangles and only a few minor romantic subplots.

i just did a rewatch and psych hasn't aged too badly at all, even if the only good seasons are the first three. I might even stop at season 2...

eureka is a cute show, about 5 years old now? it's about a town full of super geniuses and the wacky shenanigans that their new sheriff has to deal with to keep things under control. i remember liking it a lot while it was on the air, but i couldn't tell you much about the plot anymore.

good eats is a fun, scientific look at cooking! i like the host, but my roommate thought he was beyond grating, so idk. he gets into the nitty-gritty of why we cook things certain ways, at certain temps, etc, and there's a lot of dad humor.

and chuck, too! about an off-brand Best Buy employee who got kicked out of stanford, is living with his sister and her boyfriend, hates his life, etc etc UNTIL SUDDENLY he gets an email from an old friend and all these super top secret files get downloaded to his head and ONLY HE CAN SAVE THE WORLD. he gets 2 hot fbi/cia handlers, too. i can only vouch for the first three seasons, but it's funny and not too dark and the romance ~drama isn't obnoxious.

Playerbase burn-out. In addition, the few big horror games that were floating around got tugged under by internal conflict and mod strife.

i dont want to sound picky, prickly or whatever because i know you've all trying to help, but: i have social skills. i'm not a shut in. i didn't used to have this problem in being ignored so blatantly when i was in games years ago, and its sad that its assumed it must be my social problem

yes, i reply to other peoples plurks more than i make my own. i rarely complain, rant or be a debbie downer; i'm adult enough to turn off the computer if i am until its passed. i talk about rp, fandom, memes, CR, and even when i ping people because i'm talking about their characters, my plurks still go ignored. no, i've never been name-dropped either.

i think your comment has given me the answer though. i often look at my plurks from an outside perspective, i've asked trusted close friends if i'm doing something wrong to come off sounding like an ass and the answer is always no. for whatever stupid reason I'm not a fit or a part of these cliques. rather than feeling bad its probably time to ditch it

24.

1-3, depending on how you'd count it. i've worked at the family business on three separate occasions with at least a year in between working each time.

i'm not counting time spent doing easy tasks (mostly tidying up) that i did as a child.

it might honestly just be shitty people on your friend list.

i personally enjoy plurk a lot and use it as my main social platform but i have a very small plurklist and it's comprised of people i do consider actual friends. i do non-rp things with a lot of them, but i also thread with them or chatter about our own cr consistently.

it's harder to do this when you have 50000 people added and are spreading yourself thin trying to make vague connections with anyone.

You mentioned that you're not in games right now. I find that plurk really changes when you're not actively playing in a game with others; they're busy keeping up with tags and often bringing up old games and CR brings out the nostalgia goggles at best.

I also found that it took a long time to work back up to in-game levels of chatting once I joined a new game. Plurk's a difficult networking source just for hanging out with friends, unfortunately.

I see Gordon Ramsey stuff but not F Word? Come on, man, that's a damn good cooking show.

That's all I really have to contribute, sadly.

i apologize if anything i said came across as accusatory or implying that you are definitely the problem, full stop. it wasn't my intention. if i engage in these sorts of conversations, i always try to cover the bases, because frequently those are the issues, and a lot of people aren't aware of how often they're being negative or how difficult the things they talk about are to incorporate into a two-way conversation. i've seen a lot of it on my own timeline with people i like but find difficult to engage for various reasons.

if you've already done all of the above and it's really not a matter of social awkwardness, then yeah. it's the people you have on your list and that you're all a poor fit for each other, which sucks but sometimes happens.

you also said that you were in games years ago, implying that you aren't now? that could be a huge contributing factor. a lot of people don't or won't engage with people they're not in games with. their socializing on plurk, even the stuff that seems non game related, is still tangentially game related in that they're cultivating ooc relationships to maintain ic cr. you may have people like this on your timeline.

anyway, again sorry if i ruffled any feathers in my response to you. i was hoping it would come across as just open ended questions and clearly came across a little more accusatory or judgmental than i meant to.
