i'm guessing you don't do much wg because those "strict rules" have pretty much gone out the window, 90% of the current post is hi x and tumblr bullshit and calling people autists and cunts or whatever. and even if namedrops have been seen to (i think), people are still finding ways around even that, as evidenced by that one anon who keeps sneaking their grudgeboner for someone named kristen into everything (and they never provide deets because that'd get them nuked). the problem with using rules to curb wg is that it's like mowing weeds, they just grow right back. i don't think the rules have had any effect on posting at all, just because for every rule shitposters have either ignored it or found ways around it.

yes, and if people actually report it, because the mods don't really go through all the threads, then they get deleted. when a thread has been reported for an actual rule break, it gets deleted. one that gets gross and goes off tangent gets frozen and/or deleted. certainly more than what happens here. it's not a perfect system, but it's better than the pages and pages of tumblr spam that used to crop up.

i don't see why it bothers you if you don't wg. i keep up on what's going on, in flatview, and i see pages get deleted while i'm sleeping. maybe you don't notice it, but i sure do.

it "bothers me" because i had friends in this hobby who are no longer in this hobby because they tagged the wrong person and got their ass ridden by wg for weeks on end. it "bothers me" because i've tried to bring old friends i met in this hobby back and they take a look at what we've become and tell me they don't want to come back to this and i don't blame them. it "bothers me" because this was originally a hobby for people to have fun and now you're only allowed to have fun if it's in a safe space or is "group approved" enough that someone won't bother to try and kinkshame you or make fun of your shitty writing (and let's be real we are all shitty writers here)

in short, like i said, i think wg causes more problems than it solves. i think it's been that way for a while now. and while i agree with op that its time of usefulness (to the little extent it ever had a use) is long gone and it would be better closed, i don't see it ever closing. every hobby seems to have to have that subset of members who put down all the others for various arbitrary reasons.

because i'm against people trying to take something away because they don't approve of it. it's censorship. the main rule for all of these places is to just avoid them if you don't like them. there are plenty of people on the site that have no notion of either of these comms. there's also people that prefer to just go to rpa and avoid the negativity of wg. if you don't want to go, don't, but arbitrarily deciding that because you don't like it and it's negative, it shouldn't be allowed on the comm is the problem i have. take responsibility for your own actions. realize that you can't control the assholes. that's fine. no one expects you to. but this isn't YOUR neighborhood to police. let the filth wallow in itself. stay out of it.

Or maybe you or they are really exaggerating. I've been in this hobby since 2006 and have only even been mentioned on WG once, in a neutral fashion. Most of the people I know have never been namedropped on WG, or if they have it was one mention that was forgotten in the next few days. And I've tagged with pretty massive wankers. Hell, I'm even friends with a few of the people WG froths about on a regular basis, so your claim that simply innocently tagging a wanker without knowing they were a wanker got your friend relentlessly wanked out of the hobby is dubious.

Chances are you either are a shitty writer (because if you want to say 'we're all shitty writers here' you must be aware of the lack of effort you put into it), or you posted logged in to defend yourself (which of course is going to make you a target), or a friend came out swinging in your defense, anon or otherwise, which made it look like a topic that could easily ruffle feathers.

kristen has been mentioned maybe four to five times over the past couple of weeks. wg (and rpa) trolls have been relentlessly after a shitload of the same core meme players (neko, noodles/broil, tasedagod, dominus and whomever else) for the past six months to a year. let's talk about how those troll(s) have also admitted to stalking these players (hello, giant shady list that brought denise down like a hammer), sending them harassing PMs, leaving goreporn in their HMDs, happily accused them of being rapists; you name it and the screaming tittybaby of bakerstreet has done it.
