yeah I was confused reading this thread because with an office job, cons are remarkably easy. 1-2 days off every few months, maybe a day or two worth of pay for funds, and you're set.

If it turns out it's a really unpopular concept or way of handling things, yes. We could probably use a point system and are tossing around a few ideas to that effect. Ideally, we'd like more feedback on that particular mechanic before making a decision either way.

but even as a retail anon here, the issue of "taking the time off" is really not that difficult. i work full-time almost 40 hours a week but always get 2 days off; the week starts on sunday at my store, so i just request fri-sun off and an opening shift on thurs, and just work the other days of the week. doesn't cost me a single work day or use any of my vacation hours either.

the cost of everything else, coupled with a waning desire to be hot, sweaty, uncomfortable, and overcrowded for 3 days... has kept me away from cons these past few years, but time-off wise, even in a shift job, it would be totally feasible.

anyone you hope apps or hopes shows up?

us based retail anon here, and we started selling diva cups in my store about a year ago. stocked softcup disposable cups since before i started working there, tho.

I think it's safe to say that with both RPA and WG mostly dominated by a small group of really dedicated trolls (seriously, look at flatview on both comms, it's embarrassing) that anoncomms have probably run their course.

I really sincerely don't think we need'em any more. It's probably time to close up shop.

i honestly don't believe they're unnecessary. hear me out before you blow me off.

WG - while the majority is shitstirring and very loud whining, there have been numerous instances of someone mentioning something that happened to them and finding out that they weren't alone, giving all those people the ground to stand on to deal with whoever was being a shit stain. unlike rpa, wg needs concrete proof and deets before it's taken as ipso facto, so while people can 'hi____' all they want, most people brush it off or call it out as grudgewank. you can't say 'so and so told me this' and have anyone believe you unless you provide proof. it's also been pretty good at sharing legitimate details about why things are closing/slow/what's happened to people. are there negatives? sure there are. there's always going to be petty bickering and sides taken on things, but as a whole, there's a legitimate reason for wg to be around. it doesn't NEED to move at a 1k+ rate per day. it's not a game. it doesn't need to be active. it just needs to be there so people have somewhere to go to contain their bitching/whining (hence the peeves threads).

RPA - graphics/html help, pb help, username suggestions, character discussion, game discussion, canon discussion, game ideas... all things that we have links to that are there for a reason. this is a place that we actually direct a lot of newcomers to (which is why there's a resource link) and where someone can be new and stupid, namelessly so that they don't carry a stigma around their rp career. outside of the trolling, there have been a lot of great discussions over canons and fandoms and new games and whatnot. i remember the discussions going on over a lot of games that lasted for quite a while being had here, fine-tuning how they'd want them to be opened and what they'd be about. people also come here to ask stupid questions, but as this is the random adhd comm, this is as good a place as any to talk about pee colors and poo consistencies and sleeping habits and hygiene (among less weird topics). it's sort of a free for all place to just come, find out things, and maybe waste some time.

the problem right now (and that has been) for both comms is the dedicated trolling. the ones that derail conversations, intentionally push buttons, post spoilers, and be generally dickish. we've stopped the mega tumblr spamming and badfic spamming, but that's just made them change tactics. in another year, it'll be something else. the anon comms will always prevail. remember when there was so much whining and crying over 'mah ips' and how having ips on would kill the comms? ips have been on for quite a while now and during the initial spook of omg the ips there was a lull, that went away and we're back to business as usual. because no one really cares about ips.

i wish there was something else to be done about the trolls intentionally chasing people off, but other than just ignoring and talking around them... there's just not much to be done.

and i'm not sure if you're included in the trolling comment since your suggestion is just to close shop, but either way, the comms are here for a reason and people are free to come and go as they please.

A Gravity Falls AU fic where Stan fell through the portal instead of Ford, and Ford had his memory erased and then, after fixing the portal, he sat around indecisively for about fifteen years instead of opening it again. Then the series happens.

I read it because it probably has the best characterization of Ford I've seen from a fic of this particular AU, but it makes that common mistake of writing all the episodes out nearly word for word with only minor changes, so that's made it pretty boring since the Mystery Twins showed up. I'm hoping that changes once Stan shows up again.
