Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

"If I don't have horror 24/7 then it's obviously the same as 100% SoL."

Alternatively: yes, let's burn everyone out on horror all the time instead of trying to strike a good balance.

that'd be a valid response if we actually had any decent horror these past few months

it's been all party logs with boring bullshit slapped on that doesn't advance the plot

at the very least, give us some different body horror to play with beyond our characters' normal monster forms. thinking of things like the volcanic eruption event or last year's valentine's day plot.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-06 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
that would require the mods to actually think of things.

Or, you know, have the gods or the Bloody Bones do something beyond random Frank cameos for the fangirls. As it stands, this is SoL with occasional acts of cannibalism and body horror. It's boring.

Before anyone starts whining that I want "all horror all the time!!! as has happened in the past, bear in mind that we've had no horror for months now aside from the last changelog.

we've had two holiday party logs roughly a week apart. it's enough already.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-06 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
it's a body horror game. it's silly to incorporate a theme like that in your story and then do nothing scary with it.

not every event has to be a horrifying cavalcade of misery and terror, but as a potential new player apping in the next round, i'd feel more assured knowing that the game has an engaging plot that can keep my character busy. not everyone has to play the horror aspect to the hilt, but for some of us that's the entire reason why we want to be in the game.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-06 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
sadly the horror aspect's been going steadily downhill for a while. people spend more time devising ~*~pretty~*~ monster forms, boohooing about hurting a friend when they stupidly lose control for the tenth time, and having cutesy SoL parties than anything else.

The reason I'm probably going to drop soon.

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2016-01-06 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
same. the game's been stagnating for a long time. the plot is threadbare, the npcs are non existent, and the events have no real relevance to anything. they're all non sequiturs that shake up the pcs for a bit and are soon forgotten. it really is just a sometimes-spooky slice of life game and not actually horror.

but heaven forbid you complain, or people bleat about how it can't be horror all the time.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-06 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Chill. A lot of people get busy in November and December. We had the exact same complaints last year at this time, then we got the Valentine's event and everyone was fine.

Re: RYSLIG

(Anonymous) 2016-01-06 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
uh-huh. sure.

Re: RYSLIG

(Anonymous) 2016-01-06 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Except it's like that even when it's not the holidays. We have one horror event a month, if even. That event will offer SoL options for those who apped into a horror game but refuse to play horror.

Any more than that and people start mewling about how you want all horror all the time. Also none of said events have any bearing on the plot, such as it is.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-06 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
To be fair, the game moves at a medium-to-slow pace. There are some super fast taggers, but they aren't the majority. Some people are tagging into the change log for months. If we had too many events back to back, most of the game would be in backtag hell forever, and deep, meaningful CR would be almost non existent.

I've never seen anyone ignore all horror options, just ones they don't see happening to their character or aren't interested in.

And you're also assuming this game is faster than it is.

truly the Seinfeld of horror games

for it too is about nothing

(Anonymous) 2016-01-06 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
While I absolutely want more game wide mod events, I'm baffled that so many people complain but don't put out the effort to do some player-base horror themselves instead of waiting for the mods to hold their hands.

You want some gore? Find a reason for your character to string up intestines all around the town. Say the gods made you do it.

Put some heads on some sticks.

Want H/C but don't want to do the standard wig out? Don't just attack your character's friend, straight up torture those fuckers, draw it out. Wake up wearing their skin. Have a slow revival process. Something.

Ryslig definitely needs a few more events, but this isn't all on the mods. More people are whining than doing anything creative with their free time. Instead of +1ing, go step it up in the comm.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-07 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
there's a character i've been considering apping and one of the possible plot ideas i've kicking around for them would involve freelance killing god followers (to see if the gods actually do diddly) and literally putting their heads up on sticks

think anyone would sign up for this?

I've seen plenty of people playing out gore and the like, but the problem is it just doesn't have a very big impact on the game. It's great if you the player want to play some gore and that's it, but announcing that you did murder in a meaner way than most characters do it will probably just get "...Okay? Weirdo." rather than any sort of big reaction.

Murder plots kind of lose their impact in a game where everyone has to kill anyways. You'll get some negative CR if your character is really cruel about it but no one's going to riot or anything (see: the failed Norman Osborn Frames Natasha plot). If you can kill player characters that'll probably make more of an impact but that also requires getting enough volunteers.

The problem isn't really "I want to play more gore" it's "I want to play some plot-related horror that actually has an impact on the game". And, unfortunately, we can't really do that without the mods. Player plots and threading out fucked up shit on your own are great too but people like mod plot for a reason. And a lot of people probably also want to play horror without making every other character in the game hate them, anyways.
