Um

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

does anyone feel like there's a lot going on but the ooc atmosphere has made people kind of afraid to actually do things?

yes.

Sort of. I know some people are afraid to stand out due to wank. But some are still trying.

It's not even wank half the time, it's just that there's this mentality of "don't piss off the NPCs" and "don't use the network unless you have something 'important' to say" and "if you do the wrong thing, which is completely arbitrary, your character will get severely reprimanded without warning". As well as the way many anons/the game reacts to any sort of dissent or negative opinion. There is definitely a bit of a short leash on the game.

I'm happy to piss off the NPCs and do the wrong thing if that's what my character would do. But I'm reluctant to get involved on plurk any more or get to know new people because there's so much wank, and that's a killer.

I removed a bunch of players who had added me on Plurk. Aside from friends I had going into the game, I'm not adding people in the game anymore.

I don't know, some people are put off by the namedrops and the game thread in Wankgate, but what you're saying is true too.

"your character will get severely reprimanded without warning"

this happened to a few characters and most had it coming. ia that the ooc atmosphere isn't great, but this is the minority making a fuss about their precious babies being punished

it's basically a military game. why do people think they'll escape punishment?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-12 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
Warning shouldn't be required. Which characters have been reprimanded without doing something to invite it?

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2014-07-12 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
Ino and Kagari were characters who completed and passed their assignment, but got severely punished since one joked about transferring and the other asked about how Green was doing iirc.

The others failed, but they were already punished.

the punishment for failed red team should have warned the rest of the team to fall in line. Dagger has never been nice. players need to take the game seriously, it isn't a SOL jamjar.

Re: +1

I've seen Natasha sass Dagger without any repressions. She's disrespected him and sat in his seat on the plane and pretty much disregarded his incredulity. I'm not going to say it's favouritism, but it's inconsistency that might need considering.

This isn't a SOL jamjar, but I didn't notice anything particularly out of line? Nothing worse than what I've seen some characters do before. Granted, this is after the team failed, but still.

Looking at Kagari's thread, it went "can we help Green? / transfer if you want to / okay sure i'll do that". So they both either joked about transferring off Red or offered to transfer. Did people really not know the NPCs were dangerous?

Am I the only one who likes the unpredictability of all this? It's meant to be an alien military, not a coffee morning. I don't agree that mod plots which are part structure of the game should be checked in with the players.

What I'd like to see is the instructors disciplining their teams in more constructive ways rather than just punishing them. That's how a real military functions. I know this isn't a real military, but I think the idea would be more fun and would help characters develop more outside of just being afraid of the NPCs. I don't know if the mods are quite going for that angle.

As for warning/contacting the players before punishing or greatly impacting a character, I think that's just rp etiquette.

Re: nayrt

(Anonymous) 2014-07-12 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
That goes two ways. If players intend to cause trouble with an instructor, they should ask. See: the Simon incident.

I've never been in a game where so much of the playerbase is breathing down wankgate and rpanons. I'm hoping it will die down when people tire themselves out.

Re: CONSIGNMENT

(Anonymous) 2014-07-12 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. It feels like the entire game is under a microscope and it's uncomfortable.

Re: CONSIGNMENT

(Anonymous) 2014-07-12 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, not only that but you're also paranoid about adding new people because they could potentially be one of the assholes throwing shitstorms on rp communities.

I love cdc as a game, but I'm starting to think that dealing with the playerbase constantly judging everyone's decisions isn't worth it. I'm going to wait it out and hope things get calmer though.

This, so hard.

I'm in your exact position. Waiting it out. Keeping my head down.

Re: CONSIGNMENT

Yes and I will qualify it as being an issue with wank in particular. I have no problem with NPC interactions and consequences of things my character may say or do, I'm all for IC actions having IC consequences and wish it happened more often in games.

What I do have an issue with are people being wanked on before they even get in a game unless they are well known issues. It feels like every tag is looked at because "anon on wg said they suck so let me see" or "anon said I suck so how do I know if I tag this person they'll want to give me the chance to prove anon wrong, should I even try?" or "well how do I know I'm not next on the hate list?"

It's a lot of pressure when all you want to do is have fun playing in a game and I wouldn't be surprised to see people dropping just because the environment feels so hateful.

Re: CONSIGNMENT

(Anonymous) 2014-07-12 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
sorry anon wanked on you brosis

but maybe if people ignored the dumb wank rather than taking the bait (see: q's player crying about it, rapunzel's friends rushing in making idiots of themselves even when that wank was incredibly weak) it wouldn't be such an issue. of course whiteknighting, drawing attention to it, and just continuing to act like a moron which inspired said wank is going to drag it out, what else were you expecting? if you write dumb yaoi love letters and shit out dick poetry in morse code, yes, you'll get side-eyed, how is that news?

cdc's environment is no more toxic than any other new big game that's opened up. you are definitely being paranoid and if you're dropping "because it feels so hateful" we probably are better off without you. ignore it, tag, and have fun. that's what most of us are doing.

Re: CONSIGNMENT

(Anonymous) 2014-07-12 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
i don't really get this, tbh. i read wankgate and rpanons all the time, but honestly the cdc threads aren't that bad. there's a lot of comments, sure, but it's a whole lotta nothin most of the time. not any worse than standard. i've been in games with way more actual vitriol and done just fine

anons need to take a chill pill across the board if you ask me

there's so much shaking and crying going on in this thread over wank and idgi because your wank is weak as fuck

other games have had people threatening to call the fbi/doxxing/gorespam within the past year, meanwhile consignment's sitting in a pile of "someone said a mean thing about me on the internet"
